So basically Kaido used to think he was JoyBoy and this conviction made him the strongest. Perhaps he even was next in line to be JoyBoy at one point but lacked the last requirement.
For some reason Kaido stopped believing in it along the road and the light in his eyes went out. Thus Kaido who once actually was unbeatable became beatable without anyone realizing.
King too used to believe in Kaido as Joyboy at one point. And at that point he was almost unbeatable as well. Like his captain, during this battle King deep down realized what he already knew - they were not the ones. They were merely keeping the seat warm. Upon defeat King realized Luffy to be next in line to become JoyBoy with Zoro as next Dark King/King of Hell.
Perhaps there have been duos like this for 800 years like Noland/Calgara, Roger/Rayleigh but for some reason they all failed in the end.

Seems like everyone know about Joy Boy except for Strawhats (bar Robin). Luffy is Joyboy for sure but what about Sun God Nika ?? Don't tell me Luffy is Sun God Nika too
