They did the same thing in old episodes to cover "relevant" events. Punk Hazard is tied to this arc, same as Zou. And Zoro already cut a "dragon" technically lol.

Again the example you gave is poor since doffy can already expand his fruit outside of his own body and can this create clones etc. Luffy has not affect on anything else around him so comparing their fruits together to assume what luffys will be is piss poor.

The example I gave was Kid and my main point wasn't comparing other characters but rather showing that the description used ''can affect objects besides the wielder'' can mean sharing the ability represented by the DF to other things, if anything is piss poor it's your reading comprehension.
