No @PizzaBread, I was talking about the battles which is what you were specifically complaining about. You were mad at chapter 1039 and how people liked it.
My comments had nothing to do with story. Even with Oda's intended age group, One Piece has ALWAYS provided darker stories or flashbacks at points. The expectations are there. What is NOT there is an overwhelming battle analysis, powerscaling and logic feel to fights. It's never existed in the series, and continues to not in this series.

Even in chapter like last one, Oda crams the subplots. It will never going to be legendary by today's 'standards'. If the story becomes too much painful for you, take break.
Average enjoyer like me also take 3-4 months breaks from manga every year. Just don't read too much into anything. Enjoy the fiction. I never met a guy who hated his story book but still kept reading it for years.
