The Child of Prophecy thing is new but we were never told anything that isn't consistent with what's been happening now. But it's a different story for Naruto; Kishi contradicted what he preached so the criticism was well deserved.

Kishimoto did not contradict what he preached. Naruto through hard work became strong and realized his blessings that is why naruto did not get a big head but understood that being hokage was about getting the acceptance of people to serve them. Luffy on the other hand feels 1 dimensional. You have to dumb yourself down to enjoy him.

Nothing wrong with parallels here and there
But the way oda going with luffy too far the one thing luffy had was his ass fruit HE made good
Now it's gonna be the god god fruit and luffys been destined to do what he's doing to the second for centuries
And if he's destined to do it he has no real choice or freedom
Which goes against what is supposed to be his character
