Luffy (who has returned to his normal form) is lying on the ground laughing non-stop, but when he sees Kaidou's “Bolo Breath”, he screams surprised. His eyes also pop out like a cartoon, but it's more excessive than Kaidou's (Luffy acts like Jim Carrey's character in the movie "The Mask").
I would be content even with just Kaido asking to die instead of being imprisoned once defeated and then Zoro to give him an epic death in the capital.
So clearly this chapter we still don't know why (or how) they came to realization that Luffy might awaken the fruit. Something changed from capturing Robin to going after Luffy.
But it's good confirmation that Luffy's mythical power is Rubber and his creativity/imagination, while awakneing essentially strengthens it (makes it even more ridiculous lol)
It would be pretty bad writing if Kaido didn't end being killed someway given all the emphasis Goda gave to this subject matter since from the first time he mentioned about Kaido's death philosophy 🤔

When the arc began some anti Zoros literally thought he would beat Queen and be done
Kaido not getting what he wants (death) doesn't meant its bad writing lmao. That's a very biased way of saying "if zkk doesn't happen then it's bad writing"

It's only a bad writing because it didn't go the way you want. For so many times, it was the task of the Gov't to cleanup what Luffy beat so I am more inclined with the Gov't parading that they capture Kaido.
