Interesting, because Shanks wasn’t a Yonko when he and Mihawk were dueling, which makes this irrelevant.
Or maybe it was big news because Mihawk was established and somebody unfamiliar came along and gave Mihawk a run for his money and the big shot couldn’t put this guy down. Kinda similar to how Luffy taking down Crocodile was a big deal, and would have been bigger if it hadn’t been suppressed.
Too bad that Luffy isn’t green, and wasn’t when he walked through WCI, whereas this implies Shanks was. So no, not similar.
How tf is Shanks green when he’s been a pirate pretty much all his life and has had a solo career since age 15? Dafuq?
Shanks has had the best start that anyone could in piracy. He was an apprentice on the freaking Roger Pirates from a tender age, participated in the Edd War, was present for clashes between Roger and Whitebeard’s crews and was trained under the Dark King, someone even the Straw Hats knew as a living legend. And yet the only notable thing about his career appears to be duels with Mihawk, none of which he won, otherwise why is he not the WSS?
‘B-but Den! Shanks wasn’t competing for the WSS title! He’s not a *cough, sputter, cough* pure swordsman!’
Indeed which is why Zoro is wasting all his time fighting non-pure swordsmen, non-eligible WSS contenders like Kaku.
...
Then why the actual fuck are Mihawk and Shanks rivals? What, they competing over the same prostitute or something? To show her who has the biggest sword? Lmfao.
I wish I too had access to the hidden archives of Eiichiro Oda where it says that Mihawk ‘couldn’t put Shanks down’ and never won a single duel. Presumably it also has an explanation as to why despite this, literally no one has ever doubted Mihawk’s WSS credentials? Please reveal these secret canon materials and I will happily translate, always happy to add clarification to the context of this Ace meeting with the invincible Red Hair. :)
