Being Pirate King is literally the pinnacle of strength. You don’t ascend to that position not being the strongest man navigating the seas. Big Mom, Kaido, Whitebeard, all insanely strong individuals who have been toted to be invincible in the existing story, still come second to Roger.

Pirate King is not a strength title. You could swap each Yonko in their prime/peak for this position and it wouldn't change much. PK doesn't make you stronger thank Yonko. Influence is what PK grants, power you build up is peaking at some point and it's not like you are untouchable.

Shonen formula has always been that the main characters surpass their predecessors. Luffy's going to be the best at what he signed up for: whether it is being PK or the liberator of the world. Nami's going to be the best navigator ever; Usopp's going to be the best sniper; Robin's going to be the best scholar, Franky's going to be the best ship maker... likewise, Zoro will be the strongest swordsman ever. It's as simple as that.

How would you know this? Mihawk's only known association to another pirate is Shanks. He just lost his Shichibukai title and huge war is about to happen. In instances like this, to even stay relevant to the plot, Mihawk would need to be a part of SOME faction to be relevant in the endgame.

To assume this can't happen as a possibility is weird. Because it harms the argument, right?

We're given no reason to think they'll team up? Mihawk doesn't need to tie himself with anyone to stay relevant. Mihawk will be relevant as long as Zoro is alive. It harms what argument? I don't really care if Mihawk is weaker than Shanks or the vice-versa, but let's not create totally non-existing scenarios just because we don't want to accept canon.
