Yeah exactly. He was even named and inspired in design after the same legendary mythological creature that Kaido is based on too, Shuten Douji. He lost all his men ultimately vs Kaido and felt serious survivor's guilt over it, he was hardcore traumatised and depressed.

The deaths are awful writing from Oda. Deaths are good, yes, this is a war after all. But if we need to wait 7 days after the war to end to get confirmations on the deaths, then what does it even matter? And Izo and Asura? Their "deaths" weren't even memorable.

Also, I'm willing to bet Hawkins's 1% man thing was just a dropped plot point by Oda. He said he had over a 90% chance of defeating Killer, so then how would he have a 1% chance of surviving?

What a masterful disgusting troll Oda is to this entire fandom. People always celebrate way to early. The truth is the Zkk train is still going strong, due to just one simple reason regardless of all the other countless narrative evidences to it. Here’s the thing, certain people seem to have gotten short term memory loss and are forgetting about big mom. She ain’t dead, she’s just KO’d, she even said she wouldn’t die and that she believes that part of the one piece is in wano, so why would Oda have her character leave or die before confirming if it’s there or not? Same with kaido, Oda wouldn’t just kill kaido off like that under some magma. If that were truly the case akainu could theoretically have just come in with the marines and ended him and big mom himself a long time ago by that logic. Oda would have a tuff time explaining how big mom died to magma and yet didn’t have magma man himself come and end big mom himself, cuz she can be easily reached on her island in comparison to wano. Besides that though, Oda wouldnt have us leave wano without updating us on whatever their conditions are regardless. The very fact he hasn’t updated us is telling, and it is still my belief that he is saving them for THAT situation. So Ryuma’s two large feats mentioned in story are still set up for zoro to accomplish and parallel as now even the marines have come to capture the pirates and Overtake wano. (Although only sending one newbie admiral is stupid imo).
