Questions & Mysteries Why doesnt OP have iconic attacks & villains?

#41
Nobody talks about Aizen or Madara outside of dedicated fans of those series
Aizen is boring and just your typical super smart way to cool guy.Hes far to "common".

Madaras performence against the Shinobi alliance and the Kages are well known and iconic because it looked cool how 1!!! guy fought a whole army of Ninjas alone.

OP lags moments like that.G5 was shit, the fight against Kaido should be THE moment for Luffy but no,it was disappointing.Especially the ending

OP has also no iconic groups ala Akatsuki.Funny thing,Yonkous are most well known for Meme being a clown.Kaido has legit 0 iconic factor and will be forgetten in the realm of darkness.

The gomu gomu no mi itself is pretty much iconic
Madara isn't iconic nor Aizen is
For Madara he was introduced to late to be iconic
For OP Shanks, Roger/Whitebeard are iconic but they are not villains
Also you have the Strawhat itself which is iconic

OP is also pretty much popular outside of Japan the next movie will be out in a few languages 1 week After the movie is out in Japan (first one to do it)

Dragon Ball is more iconic because it is older and set a lot of basis which are still used in mangas

Disagree with no iconic groups. The Shichibukai are pretty iconic. At least the originals were.

I could say that one piece was and is never really about the fighting. But oda could have done better with some of the more recent ones.

And for villains, croco and doffy and pretty iconic. Blackbeard has huge potential and I would say he already is iconic. Akainu too.

That's actually fair. One Piece is objectively more popular overall than any other shonen, but I have never seen anyone reference a One Piece attack like they would "Kamehameha" or "rasengan", at least while talking to normies. At least in USA Naruto and Dragon Ball/Z have more cultural cache.

I guess......even if there were...they got boring...like shichibukai and yonko. What can we say....oda made it like that can't do anything.
There was nothing for us, readers, to be hooked on them or care about them....like they were only good when we did not know the characters themselves but as a mystery I guess

DBZ and Naruto villains tend to be universally praised by their entire fanbase. They propagate positive energy about their villains everywhere they go. Casuals see the universal praise and think "Huh they really must be a good villain with all this praise"

One Piece fanbase is too busy putting each other down for their villains to break out, Yonko fans shitting on Admirals, Admiral fans shitting on Yonko's, Yonko and Admiral fans shitting on Mihawk. Mihawk fans shitting on Yonko's and Admirals. We point out the flaws and negatives all by ourselves. Casuals see that shit and go "I guess they all suck".
Yeah eh

You don't really see

DBZ has worldwide cultural impact
Even Naruto.

Not just in USA.

OP isn't more popular than any shonen.
I never knew OP until someone told me about it in 2010.
I grew up knowing DBZ, Pokemon
Almost everyone around me knew those .
Parents even start calling every anime character "goku" or every anime "dragonball" or "saint seiya"

When G2 came out, both manga and especially anime, a lot of people were emulating it, so thats wrong.
I can't remember
And It seems like it was only for sometime.

Unlike with DBZ or Naruto where people still emulate their moves and so everyday

One piece clearly lacks energetic attacks like Kamehameha, Rasengan etc.

You don't go around punching people like Luffy, that's not easy to simulate like energetic attacks/abstract attacks.

Look for Ultra Instinct for instance, you just have to pretend that you're dodging a laser beam to emulate it.
Sharingan? You just pretend to stare someone.

What are you supposed to do with One Piece? Pretend to kick, punch or cut? That simply not gonna work

Gomu Gomu no followed by whatever attack seems pretty iconic, same for G2, some of Zoro's attacks and Diable Jambe. The Seven Warlords was a pretty great group. I suppose One Piece isn't as popular as DBZ and Naruto in some parts of the world but I don't think that speaks to the quality of the series or it's villains. Crocodile, Doflamingo and Blackbeard are pretty amazing.

I had heard about guys like Whitebeard, Shanks and Blackbeard before starting One Piece but I grew up watching DBZ and hearing quite a lot about Naruto even before watching so I do agree to an extent. One Piece seems pretty popular now though.

IF OP got dubbed in Spanish and Portuguese it would sell a lot more.
