I remeber Sanji saying they can't go around saving everyone causethey aren't a charity when speaking with Nami about the ph children. However, I cant remember Zoro telling him to save the kids. Do you know what chapter it happened in or have the panel and can post it?

Every character has really good input. They also have their own wills. Sanji would have disobeyed Luffy on Rocket Man, Franky would have disobeyed with the Tontattas if Luffy asked them to fall back. They also give each other all sorts of ideas and suggestions. But don't confuse that for a role

Zoro's the clear cut answer, if the crew were to have one.

We've characters in canon refer to Zoro as the vice-captain/first mate. We've Zoro who takes command of the crew when Luffy is incapable (when Sanji offered to take Zoro's place during the Kuma incident, Zoro put him in his place). We've Zoro who has historically fought the second strongest of an organization. He is one of only two WG members who isn't a captain. The other being unarguably the second in command of the Kid Pirates, and referred to by Kid as his "partner". He even beat said partner of Kid's just recently.

It's not rocket science. Why would Oda do all this for Zoro? So he can be a red-herring? Why build all these links to second in commands across nearly 1000 chapters if they amount to nothing?

Straw hat crew does not have a real hierarchy like this. The most we get is Zoro being a vice-captain/first mate but when you open a volume, in the crew info boxes you get their positions : captain, Zoro : fighter, Nami : navigator, Sanji : cook etc. Nothing about first mate or vice-captain.

As per Manga Zoro is confirmed by manga and vivre cards to be:

1. The only member who has a vice captain like role.

2. The actual first mate and strongest combatant in the the crew

The whole fuss is unneeded, the straw hats have a different relationship than other organized crews, Oda won't show Zoro ordering them every time since they have a friendly relationship (yet he was seen ordering Franky, Nami and Chopper) heck not even Luffy is doing much as a captain.

But if there was ever a vice captain role on the deck, manga/vivre cards confirmed Zoro will occupy it. while Jinbe is the helmsman, Sanji is the cook and Nami is the navigator. those three already have their roles explained.

Doesn't matter poll says. Latest chapter confirmed Jimbei as VC, so if we going by Zoro-Fans by their same logic, Jimbei now VC by how he place below Luffy and how position shows. Plus Jimbei does have better experience than Zoro all around even former captain, so make sense why he is VC.

This doesn't really say Zoro is leading, he force Sanji to stay down as he was ready to do what he must like him. More like Zoro stealing spotlight than ordering him to not do anything especially cheap shot from behind when he was focus on real threat being Kuma.
