It's ended after the 6th golden ball tbh :josad:
The 7th Should have went to Lewandowski since they cancelled it when he was supposed to win, they gifted Messi his 7th for free when his squads achieved nothing all year. (Copa is literally a joke, Argentina and Brazil should be winning every tournament, and yet those chokers have 1 trophy in the Messi era).
Meanwhile Ronaldo was tearing shit up and got robbed by Modrich just off his performance from 1 tournament.

By all means they should both be sitting at 6 each.

Atleast Croatia crying regarding the ref is somewhat acceptable unlike pepe and Bruno who were blaming Argentina for their loss
:suresure:

I absolutely don't see how having an Argentine referee affected their game when the ref didn't make a single debatable/bad call.
There was an English referee in the Brazil vs Croatia QFs when England was still in the Cup.
A French referee in the Brazil vs South Korea RO16s when France was still in the Cup.
Yet nobody was complaining.

The tears & the victim mentality from them is so hilarious to watch lol.
You know for a fact that the other guy would be tearing up while sipping his protein shake back at home on Sunday if Messi wins lmao.

Penalty was clear as day, idk why that's even a point of discussion still

He positioned his leg with a clear intent to foul the player. Regardless of the ball being in or out of play, a clear start such as that one is a foul/penalty.

Imagine if a GK had the ball in hands and just randomly tripped a player up in the box. That's a penalty since the intent was clear.
Not really.

It's a completely natural motion for goalkeepers to stick their legs out like that in case the shot goes low.

If the goalkeeper had touched the ball no one would even be crying for a penalty, which just goes to show you it shouldn't have been called.

Truth hurts. I have no horse in the race lmfao. I enjoy both of em, wanted an Argentina vs Portugal final from the start this WC.

What's natural about sticking your leg out when going for an aerial ball with your hands up lol

That's the whole point.
If the ball is still in play & the striker is stopped by stonewalling it is a pen.
It's absolutely not a penalty if the keeper took the ball but that's the risk he's taking trying to rush down the player.
Messi got a penalty vs Poland for a similar play from Szczesny. It's the same situation here.
Whether the contact is deliberate or not is secondary, tons of fouls have been given for situations where contact isn't really deliberate...

Goalkeepers should not be treated like defenders. They have priority in the box. He did nothing out of the ordinary.

Watch literally any keeper. Hands up and feet sticking out (either to the right or left depending on where they guessed), regardless if the ball ends up being aerial. This is standard practice. They don't get to react in slowmo replay time, shit happens in a split second.

If the GK got ball in his hands without any harsh tackle of course then ball is no more in the play.

But GK didn't instead ball went behind him towards the net.

In this scenario, Alvarez could have scored if it wasn't for GK sticking his leg out and obstructing him

It's clear pen as per rules

Yes, he did nothing out of the ordinary and the contact wasn't deliberate.
But the contact was there & that stopped Alvarez, who was the last man there, from going to the goal.

It may be a soft penalty, but the call was justified.
Goalkeeper did not initiate the contact. That's the issue. He wasn't even that far out to begin with.

Alvarez bull rushed him. And the Keeper guessed wrong. That's all.

And that's the price the Keeper had to pay for guessing wrong that ahead.
The contact wasn't deliberate at all, yes. But the contact was still there and that's primarily because the keeper had his leg sticking out -a natural position, yes- but still which stonewalled the player.
And that's what matters at the end.
