Character Discussion What is the purpose of Shanks and RHPs in the story?

#61
Judging by Oda's schizo history that won't hesitate to change the outcome of a plot just for shock value rather than unforseen flaws, Shanks being evil theories has as much chance to get fucked over as Shanks is good theories.

Where, in any of my comments, did i say Shanks>Kaido/BM lmao?

One Piece doesnt have powerscaling nonsense like this. The author draws whatever the fuck he wants based on circumstantial powersets. This is like saying Lucci could have defeated broken ass Enel just because he was the next arc villain. The only reason Luffy won that fight was because he was rubber.

Imagine taking powerscaling so seriously that you cant even imagine what other antagonists could pose as threats to Luffy in different ways, even if they are also Yonko or Admirals after Kaido.

And just to entertain your thought process, the manga has had Shanks stop Kaido before the paramount war and stop Akainu a day later, then also be included in this:

But sure sure, the manga isnt insinuating anything here and i just cant read.

Funny how you guys can make that exception for Blackbeard (for nothing but the possibility of him being the final antagonist), but for Shanks its an absolute no no lmao
Because BB role build up is super obvious
Who's the other pirate except Luffy having a vendetta against BB too??
It's Shanks.....
you don't need to theorize too much anymore.....
At least hope that Shanks and Luffy won't team up against BB at the end.

Oda showing us Kaido putting Shanks among the greats to compare with Luffy was natural as hell.
And Shanks stopping the war/Akainu wasn't pre-planned too. Oda is doing something that he suddenly feels convenient in the middle of writing an arc oftenly.
But he planned how the ending of the series would be and is not going to change acc to him
The final antagonist would be planned well too
And yes if you think that's gonna be Shanks whatever you said will see ........

I think people are way too black and white about this. Its not about Shanks being "good" or "evil" its about being a direct competitor for one piece for his own motivations. Kid isnt "bad" per se, yet still still is technically an antagonist by definition, because hes competing for one piece.

When you take everything Shanks does or has done thus far in the story, its clear hes just as much of a competitor as BB is. The only add on to this is the weird shit he does or the relationships he has with certain people that make you question "is he 100% a morally good person?"

"Shanks stopped Akainu for the lols and he didnt really mean it, because i can read Oda's mind and it wasnt planned and its soooooo obvious when it fits my agenda"

I love the baseless, dumb excuses like this. The manga shows countless examples and yet again, someone HAS to downplay it like they know Oda's thought process.

The strawhats' final opponents. I believe in @Paperchampion23 theory.
@Sigran101
Im also not pretentious enough to think its a 100% infallible theory. It assumes a direction for the character that im not entirely sure of, but there are things that have supprorted it the last ~200 or so chapters.

When you consider Shanks' relationship to Luffy as being one of the most important (its THE thing to come out of chapter 1), hidden motives (we absolutely do not know what he wants), questionable relationships (Gorosei, found on God Valley, alleged WG royalty), it starts to paint a very questionable picture about him.

Could he be fully good with no further direction than to just help Luffy? Of course, but its not supported by many scenes in this story.

Yeah, I know it's just a theory, but it's my favorite idea for the ending of One Piece and there's enough evidence for it that I'm happy to go with it for now.

Of course not wholeheartedly evil, i just have doubts because Shanks is Oda's first attempt at creating a character of such high quality, a non-evil rival that isn't outright inferior to Luffy like Kid and Law.

Can Oda pull out something like that after a plethora of one dimensional static antagonists? I hope so but imo, if Shanks ever gets his antagonist role, he would have malicious intents that go beyond being a PK pretty much like Xebec.

Whatever makes you believe it.......so be it.

We don't downplay Shanks feat for whatever but it was just that it wasn't always pre-planned to give hint about Oda hyping up Shanks and building him up to point of being potential final boss. Your interpretation feels balanty forceful towards Shanks role

if Shanks stopping the war is already pre-planned..........yes, you got the idea Oda has always set this man to be something else and "tease" audience about him and such.......But hey even from Oda's original idea Shanks wasn't even supposed to be this big name.
Something about him is never well planned other than him being role model for Luffy.
But as story goes with manga popularity he indeed has crucial role which is expected but at same time Oda shouldn't forget the main script about this story

It's out of the blue that he would also suddenly make Shanks final boss too unless Oda lost originality of his story and make him end boss because his TOO POPULAR......

Which faction are you thinking about?
I dont know. It will be a giant war involving every big players in the verse. Now that gorosei have the highest authority of Seraphims, there is a legit possibility they will actively participate in the fight. So the antagonists side will have =>
marines + seraphims + gorosei + CP0 + Imu and her royal knights

Luffy's side will have the grand Fleet + revolutionaries + Red haired pirates + Cross guild and former shichibukais + minks + samurais, etc

As if Imu would be a better end boss than Shanks:seriously:

For now I see them as a benchmark for the crew to surpass ;
touted as the strongest amongst the yonkos.

them being antagonist is an interesting theory but considering one of their top 3 executives is usopp's dad who he very much still cares about, its one I have a hard time seeing.
Aye they might serve final obstacle/test for the OP or/and Laugh Tale too. Would be extremely fitting thematically imo.

They carry Rogers will, well Shanks does and was Rogers apprentice so it feels fitting a diplomatic guy like him, who inspired Luffy and made him want to become a pirate too, is the ultimate judge of whether he's worthy to be Pirate King, know what the OP is and thus acquire it, the responsibility of knowing and having it etc.

Shanks and the RHP being adjudicators for the SHs would be perfect imo.

yeah
the crew not just shanks as a whole care about luffy
they were taken aback when shanks decided not to see him. a gatekeeper would fit
but anything more will feel out of place.

Yeah definitely! Their reaction, their shock, confusion and opposition did speak volumes too.
They all def care about Luffy too, it's great.

That recent filler episode scene of Beckmann and kid Luffy was really sweet too.

Definitely not a coincidence Usopp joined Luffy too. Feels like fate especially.
