Yeah the black and white manga is rough lol. Colored version it is.
Okay so chapters 2-6:
I’m really not feeling Ichigo. Rikia had a great point when she told Ichigo he shouldn’t only save the spirits in front of him if that was his only metric for deciding which spirits to save, he should instead devote himself to saving them all,
And his response was “shut up, I’ll do what I want”
So yeah definitely crap Shonen protagonist syndrome so far lol. Ichigo also seems to have no greater motivation other than paying off his debt which…okay for now I guess.
Also I noticed something strange. Rikia says Shinigami should strive to kill Hollows quickly before seeing their face so their human identity remains a mystery.
But then Rikia says killing Hollows is in fact saving them by sending them to the Soul Society.
So why then would seeing a Hollow’s face discourage a Shinigami from killing them exactly? If killing them is saving them, then seeing their face wouldn’t weaken your resolve necessarily, unless the Hollow was a shit human irl or something, but the context implied Rikia’s reasoning was that learning a Hollow’s identity would discourage a Shinigami from killing them out of empathy? Which again makes no sense.
Again, so far the manga is just fine. Some run of the mill gripes I have here and there but I understand these series take a while to really pick up sometimes.
