Praise Sakazuki, finally a good Bleach arc! I just finished chapter 70, and the Soul Society training arc was the first arc of this manga that I could not stop reading and actually wanted to turn the page and find out what was going to happen next. I think it just goes to show how powerful a competent antagonist (Byakuya), a competent enough training arc with a clearly explained magic system, and actual stakes and tension (Ichigo getting bodied left and right) can take an arc that is clearly just a setup for the bigger soul society which I have now reached (thank all that is holy). I do have some gripes though:

1. Titty drew way too many panty/up skirt shots of that young chick who works for Kisuke, that shit was weird as fuck and extremely off putting, no clue who he even thought he was pandering to there other than literal sexual predators.

2. This arc seemed like Titty was making up for lost time, it feels like he should’ve explained many of the mechanics of his power system long before now and we are now simply making up for lost ground. Which is fine albeit noticeable.

3. The Soul Society looks to be pretty bland. I was hoping for a more abstract realm full of strange otherworldly architecture but from what I saw, it just looks like medieval Japan lol..

But that’s really it, I can suspend my disbelief enough to not ask why exactly Zanpaku To’s manifest the way they do, or what exactly a Soul Reaper is and why exactly that power was dormant in Ichigo and all that stuff enough to just go with it. Otherwise here is what I actually liked about this arc:

1. Byakuya. He wasn’t amazing but for some reason he came off as extremely intimidating to me when he first showed up behind RUkia, and him begging Ichigo reinforced that. I also really liked his exchange with Kenpachi
Kenpachi: “Want to test me?”
Byakuya: “Do you want to be tested?”

I laughed out loud as that was a great line.

Like I said, definitely not an amazing villain or character but truly the first Bleach villain who even felt like a remote threat and followed through. I haven’t seen many people bring him up online so I assume Titty fucks him up lol.

2. The training arcs for all characters were handled well, mainly Ichigo. For the first time Ichigo didn’t seem to me like some messiah child as Titty had been portraying him up until now, but he actually had a lot of genuine struggles and low points to overcome this arc. Which is great.

3. This arc actually felt like it was building up to a bigger plot line, which is once again a first for Bleach. It’s a shame I had to slog through 50 chapters of mostly trash to get here but here we are. For me this was a solid B tier arc. Finally I’m excited to continue reading this series! Lol

Byakuya and Kenpachi are two of most bleach fans favorite captains and just in general , the later is just an epic motherfucker ( Kaido is made in China Kenpachi lol) but Byakuya is epic too. Glad you finally got to the SS arc, its an amazing arc and I hope you will enjoy it.

Don't worry, Tite doesn't fuck him up. It's just that as the series progresses there are several characters stronger than him that he turned from "most intimidating looking Captain" he was in the beginning, to be mid tier Captain as the series progressed.

The high school me's favorite character was Kenpachi, but actually Byakuya's character is more likeable imo.

Low tier: Soifon, Komamura, Hitsugaya
Inbetweener: Tousen
Mid tier: Byakuya, Mayuri, Kenpachi, Gin, Shinji Hirako
Inbetweener: Ukitake
High Tier: Shunsui, Yoruichi, EoS Byakuya, EoS Hitsugaya, Urahara, Unohana, Aizen
Top Tier: Captain Commander Yamamoto, EoS Kenpachi, EoS Aizen

I don't remember much from Kensei, Rose and Love. But since they are Shinji's underling and Shinji is Mid Captain level imo, I would place the 3 at low Captain or inbetweener like Tousen.

Indeed, you are finally at the most fun part of Bleach where you start meeting actual cool characters, the Soul Society Arc (130 chapters in total).

Nah, Byakuya is cool. It is actually a good sign you haven't heard of him cause that means he doesn't do egregious shit that gives him a bad reputation. I mean, you have heard about the likes of Gremmy/Yhwach/Barro far in advance for all the wrong reasons, am I right? Lol.

Yeah, the Japanese shanty town aesthetic is a major bummer. You might remember the first post I ever made on Bleach was how much of a disappointment the afterlife setting was.

Eh, Zanpakuto are left until the last arc to have their origins fully explained. For now anyway, they are special swords that Shinigami imprint a portion of their soul onto and the powers of the sword kinda reflect the Shinigami in question... Or something like that.

Yeah, this arc definitely builds up to something all right. :myman:

For the latter point, don't get your hopes up too much. Ichigo is very much a power scaling messiah.

For the first point.... I must have mentally blocked that shit when I first saw it because I don't remember it at all. :jay-yeah:

I’ll always argue that Byakuya does get shafted, and that’s because

Final Arc Spoilers

he should absolutely 100% have died in the first invasion. His defeat was part of a great oh shit, things are going down moment, had a great farewell speech that tied up his character, nice visuals of the sword breaking, could allow Rukia and Renji to move on with his memory.

Instead, well, the fangirls spoketh, and he just comes back and beats some people up without really doing anything interesting.

And Byakuya’s one of my favourite characters from Bleach, that’s why I’m pissed at Kubo for messing up what should have been his ending.

For the earlier Quincy conversation it will get expanded on more later on but not, eh, very well.

Yeah it feels like Kubo gave him one of the best sendoffs I've ever seen and then backtracks

It was really weird...

I mean the
"Please protect the soul society" line gave me chills when I first read it
but now whenever I reread it's just like eh

Eh, I'm not into Bleach enough to power scale it. Lol. The list looks mostly alright to me I guess. I would say that Aizen was always a Top Tier. That is all I have to add. Lol.

I try not to get too involved in bleach powerscaling. I made a few posts on Narutoforum’s bleach section and everything I said/thought was wrong lol. I know most people have Kenny on the same tier as Byakuya and Hitsuigaiys EoS and even have Byakuya > him

With the Vaizards above average HM arc captains

Bolded: that's not possible. What do you think?

With the Vaizards above average HM arc captains
Vizards are noob, they aren't above the mid tier captains like Byakuya, Kenpachi, Gin. Half of the Vizards weren't even former Captains but former Vice Captains..

I’ve seen good arguments on it lol. Byakuya being much faster and his bankai being op at the end.

I meant the captains. Kensei casually smacked Wonderweiss around and people scale him as the strongest Arrancar

Oh man…why do I get the feeling that the Soul Society arc is about to be a magic samurai arc. Lol

First One Piece and Wano, then Black Clover and the Land of the Sun…I just can’t escape these fucking Samurai arcs can I…lol
its not its better the best arc Bleach showed us

also dont rank characters in strength

Bleach is really inconsistent in that matter if you rank them you get mad at Kubo but enjoy arc for arc

no matter what read the whole arc Kubo makes good parts and his battles are bloody

I for one think it would be hilarious to watch Lee try to powerscale Bleach characters only to get mind fucked an arc or two later by an inconsistency

really first FT and then Bleach they dont care for anything they just want to write for the moment
Bleach and FT are alright.
It is fucking One Piece bro, who doesn't care about powerlevel and just write whatever the author wants. @lee33 @PeperLevi

- From Luffy who already learned Future Sight yet let Otama got kidnapped by Gifter fodder
- Shanks the supposed Haki God, and his whole crew let kid Luffy got kidnapped by East Blue fodder Higuma
- Luffy, Sanji, Robin, Law and etc, the guys having Future Sight, aerial and speed, clutch hax, and shambles; let Momo got kidnapped by Kanjuro alone
- Luffy who got one shotted and embarassed by Kaido; he was defeated as bad if not worse than Mihawk did to East Blue Zoro, only to ended up defeating the same Kaido in the same arc
- Big Mom got clowned by mid tiers again and again
- Kaido doesn't have awakening while Lucci has it
- Kaido didn't use hybrid form against Oden because muh muh mystery
Etc

Bleach and FT are alright they would look like masterpiece mangas in powerscaling compared to the mess of One Piece.

Come on man, a green as grass Ichigo went from like a Mid Tier to a Top Tier in the span of a single arc. Lol. Bleach easily has the worst power scaling of the Big Three shonen.

Just see this thread with folk like me, Zenzu, ConquistadoR, Celestial D. Dragon, NikaInParis and HeroesNZ on Bleach's insane scaling shenanigans. Lol.
