I can say that Chopper & Jinbei are non human creatures, but Zoro doesn't fit in there, Zoro & Jinbei strong fighters but Chopper is weak, so I don't know what connects those three.

Most suitable pattern for Zoro, Chopper and Jinbe is that all of them were "feared"...
If we are to follow the pattern for others, the next recruits (should there be more) must be (in exact order) a female who works under a major villain, an engineer who has long range weaponry, and a pervert gentleman who mostly relies on speed...

I have to tell you that I like this much better than your theory before - I actually love this connection, especially number 1
I could very well imagine Oda sitting in front of a documentation about WWII and be like - Oh, yeah - this ship - I want that.
And I just looked it up: The old series of "Space battleship Yamato" dates back to 1974/1975. Maybe Oda as a child has seen this and wanted to make an homage to it.
Fact is: Weprobably will seePluton and Poseidon again at the end of One piece. It will be interesting how Pluton then will be firstly introduced and who will have the controll over it.
