First off let me say the shanks hype is at a all time high :steef::steef::steef: the community has been hilarious and yet as toxic as i have seen it in a while :milaugh::milaugh::milaugh:. Well anyways pushing this aside lets address the topic at hand Shanks the Master Swordsman.

First off lets establish the pinnacle of swordsmanship as told by and demonstrated by kyoshiro.

Zoro here learns some very important details to swordsmanship

1.Zoros own understanding is confirmed Some Swordsmen can cut through anything, even steel!!!

really only including this to restate zoro wanting to CUT through anything same childhood goal kyoshiro

2.Kyoshiro tries to teach him Some Swordsmen can NOT cut anything, These same swordsmen also have the ability to cut through steel. And with the same instrument.

the desire of the swordsman is key and At this point I feel pretty confident that we have two displays of this.

Roger vs oden… haki slash sent to him but no cuts anywhere on odens body afterwards roger is one of those swordsmen who can not cut anything.

Next example being his pupil shanks using the same attack which mind you left no cuts on Kidd.

3.The Pinnacle of Swordsmanship is the power to protect what one wishes to protect, and cut what one wishes to cut.
Shanks demonstrated this fully this chapter. First he wanted to protect everyone, secondly we need to remember that a swordsman that can NOT cut, can cut steel. Shanks did all this in that moment he cuts through the rail gun and then does not cleave Kidd in two the pinnacle of swordsmanship, so many are saying shanks is using a sword but not cutting anything therefore he is not a swordsman when oda has already established this as still being swordsmanship.:steef::steef:

For those that say no could you leave valid reasoning at this point?Any Manga facts to disprove?

B-B-But he used a sword to send a hakimakiha at kid right? its not like it was a sword attack.. Is luffy a sandalman or sanji a shoe man? it looked like he cut the railgun b-but its the sheer force of his hakimakiha that made it seem like it cut it. Ehm

So i will vote for idc he is a hakiman because i just proved it

In all honesty no need to drill them with the facts Shanksbros won't accept it even if they seen it themselves in the manga they will keep denying it. Only when we actually get to Mihawk they will understand.

"The pinnacle of swordsmanship is to protect what one wishes to protect, and cut what one wishes to cut"
"A blade that injuries all that it touches isn't really a sword"
And he learned that from Roger, the "purest" swordsman in the story! :steef:
Yep and to me what’s even more crazy is that even at this point with proof that the pinnacle can be obtained by roger and shanks how in the hell do you go beyond this and make a black blade. I don’t even feel like anyone has hit the mark at this point (I could be wrong lol )

i am sort of conflicted here as i kind of think that they somewhat have a point about the sheer force of shanks sword swing go through the railgun.

1.kyoshiro paper ,and the branch zoro tried to cut flows with the blade when the blade connects pushing the object gets pushed away (there will not to cut)

2.zoro then shows the will to cut right after (will to cut the stone) and it is sliced cleanly

3. what happens if the will of the swordsman says do not cut and then they launch a attack? The object it comes in contact with is sturdy instead of it flowing like the paper or leaf, it being more like the rock zoro cut? The haki wave should in theory smash through it in a crude cut type fashion which is what we see with shanks vs the railgun or maybe even if zoro will was not to cut the rock it may of been smashed in a cutting line. Idk needs more examples i guess.

High lvl swordsmanship but not the pinnacle.

This is nothing but kind swordsmanship.

Pinnacle of swordsmanship is cutting everything.

A sword that does not know how to hold back.

Hope Oda showcases Mihawk's skills before fighting Zoro.

No one is prepared.

Can't say i fully agree The Pinnacle of Swordsmanship is the power to protect what one wishes to protect, and cut what one wishes to cut. shanks did just this lol he protect,he cut what he wished(through the railgun),but did not want to cleave kidd in two leaving no cut on him.

Yep, I get this. High level skill. Bending the sword to the wielder's will.

It is a matter of perspective. I'm looking at the perspective of cursed swords, swords that were meant to cut.

Mihawk, when he tested Luffy at Marineford War said his powers knows no restraint (referring to Yoru). He tested Luffy with the intent to cut. I think this is why Roger and Shanks doesn't have black blades, they're too much of a good person they don't want to cut even their opponents. Meanwhile Mihawk will cut regardless. And the ability to cut anything is the pinnacle.

Edit: Nvm. I realized I'm talking about the application and not the technique itself. And yes, the ability to cut and not cut what the swordsman wants is the pinnacle.

how do you respond to this though... in the context of wb looking at shanks it makes sense that wb is talking about roger here, and the only way to scar is to cut so in all respects roger was a swordsman who could do both cut and not cut (cut what one wishes to cut) it just seems weird that you want to take out the ability not to cut from swordsmanship and say the pinnacle is to cut everything when it seems the pinnacle is the ability to do both :choppawhat::choppawhat::choppawhat:
