  • Thatch had already eaten the yami yami no mi. Teach needed to kill him to use his technique to obtain it.
  • Not an uncommon one, but Akainu suffered some great atrocity at the hands of pirates at a young age. It’s not impossible that he had some connection to a criminal organization at first, but even as a child, he was already wearing a hat with the justice symbol, so he likely turned pro-marine early on.
