Character Discussion If Zoro didn’t exist would Mihawk have any fans?

#21
I do agree we are getting to see his personality somewhat. But as far as the “die hard” Mihawk fans. He hasn’t done anything and people hype him to indirectly hype Zoro. It’s not based on him as a character.
Like yeah there’d be less die hards for Mihawk, but he’d still have a solid fanbase. There’s just be more shanks fans using Mihawks rivalry with him to hype shanks farther

Lol which Shanks fans use Mihawk to hype Shanks? Mihawk has nothing that Shanks could get hype from...it's completely the other way around, Mihawk stans are entirely leeching off of Shanks hype.

They aren’t tied to Mihawk

What agenda does Mihawk have and how was it portrayed. I think he looks cool and that’s about it. He’s stoic and doesn’t have a ton of personality.
I wasn't referring to Mihawk's agenda when I said "[...] and agenda aside [...]".

While I agree that he doesn't have a ton of personality, he has enough of it that half the users here don't understand him.

In a nutshell I am saying that most Mihawk fans are just people pushing a Zoro agenda. Mihawk hasn’t been shown doing anything notable in the series. I think his design is fire but outside of that what has he done to have a large fanbase or prove his strength?
Are you kidding? Have you seen the characters that get worshipped on here? Yeah his fanbase includes a lot of zoro fans, but even if zoro didn't exist mihawk is still a more likable character than:
Any of the admirals other than fuji
Any of the antagonists that luffy has defeated other than kaido
Any of the warlords other than jinbe and debatably law

He would just exist as Shanks' former rival and currently a person standing at the top of the world with rest of the Top Tiers.

Mihawk has his own history, his existence is not purely based on Zoro's character.

I think that Mihawk is cool and needs something to seperate him from Zoro and Shanks in order to be a great character. Right now he’s just an obstacle in the story.

It’s just weird that people really fight so hard for him just to push a Zoro narrative. Fans never take an objective approach.

Everything you said is completely false.

Every admiral has more showings and better feats than Mihawk except GB and arguably Kizaru.
Aokiji shits on him as a character and Akainu is easily better.

Luffy antagonists? Are you crazy? Doflamingo, Rob Lucci, Crocodile? I can keep going. Mihawk hasn’t done anything character wise.

I won’t name the warlords because half of them are Luffy antagonists.

Yep, exactly why I said yes but not as many. I won't be a Luffy/Shanks fan either without one of them existing.

I don’t see how you couldn’t be a Shanks fan. He stopped the war, bitched Greenbull, one shotted Kidd and Killer, was on the pirate kings crew, can get an audience with the gorosei while being a pirate and none of this involves Luffy or Mihawk.

Tell me about his history and existence, I’m very curious.

Thats the problem here. You only address scenes 10 & 20 years after the start of the series.

Back in the day there was no dick measuring about who is the strongest character.
Every early fan of OP is still on because of Shanks,Mihawk,Zoro,Luffy.

I mean, WB was revealed to be the WSM and the Marines were freakinf out about them getting ready to meet. This was pre-Skypiea btw:

It was already strongly hinted he was relative to WB this early.

We'll learn more about him when his time comes.

I have been reading this story weekly since Skypiea. I don't feel any different about Mihawk than I did back then. He's an endgame character that got introduced earlier and that Oda rarely graces us with. I'm willing to bet Oda doesn't even know Mihawk gets slandered online because his title and story future role really should hard carry his potential and how he's perceived. In fact, if it weren't for fans of other characters (or factions) wanting to slander any other character, they'd enjoy him too.

Speaking of power... Was I bummed that he didn't do more on Marineford? Sure, who doesn't want their favorite characters flex more on screen? We all do. Did I ever perceive him as "weak"? I didn't even know people did until I came online. Marineford was a festival of high tier characters clashing and most top tiers not really trying and it was already evident by their attitudes back then, with admirals clashing unscathed with Whitebeard and then with Marco or Jozu the next moment.

Speaking of "needing something to separate". Mihawk is already his own character with a very distinct personality, but as I said, we'll learn more about him when his time comes. We didn't know anything about Kaido or Big Mom but their names for years. Barely the same about Shanks. Same for Dragon and I'd say same for Garp (it wasn't a short time until we at least got his flashback with Roger and Luffy. It may be perceived as short for people who watched the anime when it was all said and done, but not for anyone who followed the manga back then. And it's just now that we have gotten Garp's literal first on-screen feat).

Oda only starts showing what characters are capable of when their relevance to the specific current arc draws near. Mihawk's time will come, like any other top tier's time came.

Do notice how I can show my appreciation for Mihawk without mentioning the name "Zoro" who doesn't live rent free in my head.
