I think the reason the Fire Nation was so irrelevant in Korra was because they were sooo prominent in The Last Airbender.

The 3 villains of each season (Zhao, Azula and Ozai) were all from the Fire Nation too, which is why I think we had two water benders, an Airbender, and an earthbender as the seasonal villains for Korra.

Yeah, IIRC they didn't want to make the fire nation antagonistic at all, to show how they changed.

It was a fine decision and I do like how the Earth Kingdom got so much focus. But the fire nation from Avatar the Last Airbender was so iconic and i can't help but miss them
