It's a lousy explanation. The narrative always comes first regardless of Luffy. If your ideals or thoughts don't fit the narrative, you have to change yourself and not the narrative.
Here Luffy already knew more than enough about the AdvCoC and we see how Kaido hits him. It is supposed to be the final attack of both, so it is obvious that there is AdvCoC, as the trails mark...
Coincidentally, both scenes refer to the confrontation of
two attacks with AdvCoC.
- There is evidence that
two AdvCoC attacks did not touch each other.
- There is evidence that
a single attack from AdvCoC does hit its target.
You can not ignore the parts that do not interest you, you have to find an explanation that justifies both irrefutable facts. You don't have to be very smart to find the explanation and more when more than 90% of the fandom agrees on something.
