Speculations Loyalty hierarchy in Blackbeard's crew

#1
This thread is an analysis and speculation about the loyalty system in the Teach's crew.

Briefly, this is my current top (speculations+attempt at objectivity) of the most loyal subordinates of Blackbeard. For those, who is not tl;dr I will explain further:

1. Kuzan
2. Burgess
3. Wolf
4. Van Auger
5. Lafitte
6. Pizzaro
7. Doc Q
8. Devon
9. Vasco
10. Shiryu

I think he is most loyal member of BBP and maybe even a close friend

Had a heart to heart talk with Blackbeard during a feast with him (in the world of One Piece, having fun together is one of the main themes of this manga, and very important. Like binks sake and the legend of the god Nika).

A close shot of Kuzan's serious face during Teach's offer to join. Author focuses on Kuzan's emotions, very similar to how Luffy recruited members of his team, but Luffy has something like a family with no close blood, while Teach's team is full of psychopaths and cruel sociopaths, the only exception is our subj - Kuzan

Very similar to Luffy's style of recruitment and atypical for Teach

For the sake of his agenda and Teach's ambitions, he went against Garp (basically against his father)

Didn't do or say anything to Shiryu after he interfered in their duel and attacked Garp. Probably adopted Teach's devious tactics.

Blackbeard immediately turns to Kuzan for an explanation, which means he trusts him a lot in such important matters. Shiryu is also well aware of the Marines, but Teach turned to Kuzan, despite the fact that he is a former admiral and it would be beneficial for him to lie.

Teach entrusted him with the issue of obtaining Ace's fruit. (important task)

Burgess respects only strength and charisma, and only the cunning and individualistic can betray. Burgess is too "simple" for that (yep, that one panel describe his whole personality)

He worries about the crew, as he discussed with Teach the topic of Shiryu and Kuzan's disloyalty

His emotional and social intelligence is at the level of a child, just like Chopper. He is too naive and simple to betray anyone.

Quite observant and responsible, he remebered about marines and immediately reports the approach of Akainu

In addition to saving Teach's ass in the battle against Law, He is also tactful and thinks through further actions himself. This means that he cares about the consequences and the fate of the crew. Which immediately puts him much higher than thoughtless psychopaths like Vasco Shot

Works well in a team, which means you can easily negotiate and cooperate with him

Tactful and diplomatic, which means you can at least cooperate with him, and not keep him on the crew only through intimidation

Keeps order in the crew

Tries to advise Teach how best to act in a given situation

Cunning, cruel, individualist. Such people may well betray if cooperation does not go according to their plan or agenda.

He is afraid of Teach's punishment. So he respects him and is not inclined to immediately betray him.

Teach would not trust such an important ability (Isle-Isle fruit) to a disloyal member of his team.

As soon as he joined the team, he immediately wanted the status of captain, despite what Teach showed in Marineford, which means that if Teach dies/becomes very weak/loses his charisma, then he is quite capable of betraying
Cruel and heartless, he does not think about the consequences of his actions or diseases. Obviously not a plus for his loyalty. Sane people are the least prone to betrayal

He is weak, modest and passive. Judging by the interaction between him and Teach, their cooperation only works on Teach's charisma, and not on a mutually beneficial relationship.

Psychopath and serial killer (she kills beautiful women to collect their heads - vivre card 0650) who doesn't care about the consequences, all she cares about is satisfying her lust for murder. Crazy and mentally unhealthy people are more prone to betrayal. Her loyalty rests on Teach's intimidation and charisma. She is below Doc Q in terms of loyalty as she is mentally unstable and more unpredictable.

A maniac and a psychopath, for whom murder is not even a fetish, but quite a common entertainment. An alcoholic, and therefore more unpredictable than the rest of the crew. Even lower than Devon, because for the sake of satisfaction he is capable of destroying his own allies.

Betrayed others before (Impeldown Incident)

He doubts the logic of Teach's plans and his competence.

A psychopath driven by bloodlust. Most likely, his blade is one of the cursed ones, which is clearly a minus for his loyalty.

He hits in the back if he sees an opportunity, he has no rules and principles at all (except for some of his own that only he himself knows). Even Teach has some principles or rules.

Afraid of nothing, no legends, powerful crews (Garp, Sengoku, whole BB crew etc), life imprisonment in the most cruel prison did not frighten him (Even the steel-tempered veteran-pirate Jimbei was horrified to be there). Therefore, he is not afraid of Teach at all. Psychos like Vasco Shot is also not afraid of anyone, but rather from insanity, while Shiryu was perfectly aware of Garp's and Sengoku's power and still taunted them.

Despite the bloodthirstiness, he is logical, far-sighted, always tries to do everything as carefully as possible and without risks to himself. His survival = the survival of the rest of the team. This is the basis of his loyalty.

Stop reading when you had Aokiji on first.

OG crew is the most loyal. Burgess in first place. Then potentially Latiffe. Not sure about others. From New members Shiryu is the most loyal from Impel Down. Aokiji is the least loyal.
The last chapter destroyed the "traitor-Kuzan" narrative. Besides, it would be too boring, for him to be a future traitor. On the contrary, it's cooler if he really became a pirate. In addition, we hardly saw former marines who became pirates (X drake and Corazon - spies). Although in irl history, almost all pirates are former military officers.

The least chapter did not destroy anything.
You depict as we didn't know how Aokiji operates. He froze to death his best friend in pursuit of justice, he froze Nico Robin and Luffy to death.

It didn't destroyed a shit. Lol.

It makes no fucking reason for him to be an actual pirate. He can't fully be a pirate and loyal do Teach when he has friends on marine like Smoker.

The original crew is the most loyal. Laffitte threatened Pizarro for asking to be captain, so maybe he’s the most loyal.

As for the ID prisoners, Pizarro seems to be the most in contention with Teach, so he’d be the 2nd least loyal after Kuzan.
Teach seems to prefer Devon & Vasco from that group so they’d be the most loyal. Shiryu & Wolf would follow.
So: Laffitte > OG crew > Devon/Vasco > Shiryu/Wolf > Pizarro > Kuzan

Well, I already explained in the spoiler about Pizzaro. Teach would not give such a powerful and important fruit to a disloyal member of his crew. Also, Pizzaro was very worried about what Teach would do if he saw the ruined island. But Vasco Shot and Shiryu didn't care, they sat quietly and didn't panic (they were definitely not afraid of Blackbeard as other crew members). Fear = respect and loyalty

Good thread unlike the usual trash threads in this forum. But I disagree with some of your assessments here:

- You made a good point that Kuzan is loyal to Blackbeard, I haven't thought of it that way before. That said, Kuzan will leave or betray Blackbeard sooner or later. I dont see him being the core part of the Blackbeard crew that will fight against the strawhats
- Lafitte is too low, he threatened to kill Pizarro because Pizarro wanted to be the captain
- Doc Q has also been hanging around for a while, no reason to question his loyalty
- You are right about Shiryu, he is the least loyal of them. To add to your point, Shiryu questioned at MF whether they would disband if Teach's experiment fails. Devon and Vasco are also psychopaths, so it makes sense to put them down below.
- Pizarro is too high, he seemed to be jealous of Blakcbeard's fame

My loyalty ranking would be:
1-3. Burgess ~ Lafitte ~ Auger
4. Doc Q
5. Kuzan
6. Sanjuan Wolf
7. Vasco
8. Devon
9. Pizarro
10. Shiryu

Lafittes definitely the most loyal willing to kill Pizarro at the slightest sight of insubordination.
Yes. Potentially. And that would match Oda (nonsense) statement about Zoro will to kill any crewmember if Luffy ordered him to do it.

Plus we have both Burgess and Shiryuu not trusting Aokiji too. I guess that also puts on them a high level of loyalty.
