Not really. Socialism is that the community controls or has pull in the means of production and distribution. Communist is where everything is publicly owned and everyone only gets what those in power believe they need and nothing more. Under a communist dictatorship, the state or government owns all the property and controls the means of production. You don't own a thing.
American captitalism is completely unregulated and the properties and m3ans of production has been concentrated into the hands of a select few, making it very difficult for you to own anything. Sound familiar?
Capitalism needs some socialist breaks to prevent crazy exploitation and poverty. At least that way America can get mandated universal healthcare, sick leave, paid leave and maternity leave like many European counties.

As for MLK, he was anti-capitalist and believed there needed to be a radical redistribution of political and economic power. Imo, we just need some mandates to give more worker rights and a bare minimum.
