They really aren't, or else they would care about the already existing children, which they don't. Just as they don't care about maternal care. But somehow they care about fetuses and in some states even try to push laws that have death penalty for abortion, because "even the unborn are made in god's image". In fact we can determine that the reason conservatives are against abortion, is, because through this, they can exercise conservative values to their voters; values like traditional families, marriage and gender roles, in which the woman is reduced to her function of giving birth and taking care of children. It's really not that complicated.

Yes, it's more or less the conclusion. You cannot treat existing children (which are humans) inhumanely by not giving them access to basic needs but at the same time giving human rights to a fetus in its early development in a mother's womb. Conservatives are disingenuous in that regard.
