bounties got higher the more the story progressed. even oda has kinda retconned the bounty crco had pretimeskip. ace bounty was introduced pretimeskip and back then it seemed huge. Now it doesnt. Fun fact, oars jr has the same bounty as ace or close to.

Fujitora knew Luffy beat Doflamingo, yet his bounty only rose to 500 mil. So with the 550,000 we can atleast assume the Marines thought of Ace as a higher threat than Doflamingo.
That statement is so stupid in like 6 different ways. Luffy did not get a 500 million bounty for "beating Doflamingo". What was reported was that the Straw Hat and Heart Pirate alliance took down the Don Quixote family. Apart from that, the world government knew absolutely nothing because all communication was cut off by the birdcage and that's all Maynard reported. After that, Akainu cut ties with Fujitora and nothing else was reported.

And beating someone does not mean you are as threatening as them. Oda said Crocodile's real bounty would have been 160+ million, and Enel would have been 500 million, while Luffy was only 100 million.

Its not low
Sabo is the seond in command of the RA had 600 Mio
Law who has 500 Mio could deflect attacks from an Admiral and Shichibukai and wasnt one shoted like Jozu I

Snack is a sweet commander who has 600 Mio one of big moms top fighter

after seeing the bounties of the top tiers and top commanders like Queen and Katakuri people tend to underestimate the bounties of the other yonko commanders

Oven and Daifuku got only 300 Mio

Ace bounty is pretty high no wonder the WG tried to execute him

I thinks its three things really. First part is, it was introduced pre skip. And like almost everything pre skip vs post skip, Oda retconned it. Remember when Oda said 400mill is exceedingly hard to surpass and go up once you hit it? And Ace was 150mill above that, he’ll tha WG considered him a bigger threat than Doffy when Doffy joined tha Warlords. And that’s with tha WG knowing both of their histories and such

Secondly, Ace spent a year doing nothing noteworthy. He wasted a year chasing Teach. And even before that wasn’t it stated that tha WhiteBeard Pirates hadn’t really made any moves in years at that point? So he hadn’t really gotten a chance to go and jus do crazy shit to boost his bounty.

Lastly, he was young. He got 550mill in 3 years. Cracker has 800 mill and he’s a good bit older than Ace I think. Perospero is much, much older than Ace, wit decades of pirating and only got 150mill on him. Same wit Katakuri, hes been pirating for decades. And Ace got half his bounty in like 2 years( he spent a year searching for Teach so his bounty ain’t move in a year)
It wasn't past 400 million. It was bounties past 300 million.

Hence why an exceeding number of big name pirates have bounties in the 300 mil range.

That jus adds onto my point then. He had almost 2x what Oda said was exceedingly difficult to surpass
Yeah, thats why I'm trying to say that Ace's bounty really wasn't that small.

All pirates we've seen with bounties of 300 to 500 mil have been exceedingly strong. Having a bounty of 550 mil isn't a small feat.

Like, Oars Jr was also a bounty with 550 mil, and he was capable of taking the charge and stealing a great deal of the spotlight at Marineford by himself.

It was pre TS, and for a long time was the biggest bounty we have seen.

But could be argued that he is still young, and with a lot of veterans in WBP, he was not a big treat, and was not the captain like Luffy anymore so dont get só much attention, until they discovered his connection with Roger.

In the novel they say something about when he enter the NW and his bounty is around 100m only, if he has go from 100 -> 550 for joining the WBP van be seen as a major up

I think Ace's bounty stuck at 550 millions because :

a) he hadn't been a pirate for long, and in that time, had spent one year seeking WB (more or less), one year with his crew and one year chasing BB.
b)He hadn't much ambition. Sure, he wanted to beat WB to prove himself, but he had a change of heart rather easily and afterward, it was obvious that he had little interest in accruing more fame or becoming a bigger name.

I mean, imo Marco, Joz, Vista and probably Izo were stronger than him tbh. That right there could explain why he was "only" a 550 million pirate, there were plenty of others around or higher than his level
To be fair, they’re all double his age and then some. If he lived that long, I’m sure he would have been way more dangerous than them.

Of course Oda increased bounties with time, but I don’t really mind it as I don’t consider bounties that important. (Other than for comic relief in the SHs.)
