While most Pirates in the series are portrayed as Brutes - Mihawk's themed after a Knight, living in a castle & sophisticated with attire & preferences (like Wine over Sake) & a Unique 1 Sword style (like Knight) with a Black Sword.

Design wise, he's one of the better ones by far.
