Lol maybe in a 2 party system that is the case, politicians are forced to join a “side” to have a political career but a lot of people have no incentive to be strictly left or right wing. A lot of independents are that, independent because they don’t align with either party

Again, politicians are forced to pick a side to have a career. Someone who has no incentive to do so is a better representation of the political spectrum, and in America there’s ALOT of independents. Elections are won/lost on the independent vote

Center politics are mostly ancient left winger that have tasted conservatism and liberalism too much and became right wingers. Macron and Hollande are perfect example of that.
