Kaido doesn't look a cruel dictator as of now ( like Big Mom).......It seems he is friendly with atleast top brass of the crew and he gives a chance to anyone ( powerful enough) to climb up to the top position in his crew....
His dreams of creating a huge war engulfing the whole world may be endearing some of some of his subordinates.....His insane one v one strength may be attracting some more....He has lot of qualities similar to other Yonkos which attracts people to work under him..... I don't think his crew would have survived for such a long time if many betrayed him before.....
One negative I would say about him is his habit of changing his enemy into his subordinate by torturing them....( Like he tried to make Luffy and Kidd his subordinates)... This habit of his may bite him later....

there are honestly people out here who think prime wb and prime roger would have ducked or not been able to take down big mom or kaido. pls keep this same energy end of the arc. I wouldnt take the excuse of bad writing or plot armor when you begin to place meme or kaido above the definitive goats that you are constantly told time and time again these two ruled their era and their threat as pirates has not been surpassed individually till mama and kaido allied together. Oda would rather say wb didnt know what happened to oden which is honestly pretty bad than come to the conclusion some of you are rn. keep going tho.

And while BM has many cruel traits she at least doesn't seem to recruit people by having them tortured and enslaved first so they will have their spirits broken and really wants to make Totto Land a prosperous and peaceful place when she's in her right state of mind. I don't know if he will join the strawhats or the grand fleet but he will be definitively an ally to luffy.
