Chapter Discussion ONE PIECE CHAPTER 982: SCOUNDREL MEETS SCOUNDREL

For me Oda try to save the Calamity as long as he can.
He making them alongside with Kaido the last step of the war, who begin inoffical with Luffy attacking the beast pirates.
As step for step, Luffy first take out a normal beast pirates>then take out gifters>then face multiple headliners(Apo at the lead)>Numbers join the battlefield>probably soon two flying six(Ulti and Pageone) joining the battlefield too.
You can see that Oda goes step from step and even making every new step harder and harder, Ulti alone of course shouldn´t be the big problem for Luffy. But the point is and that is important, the numbers of the beast pirates are to much and with every new step far stronger enemies shows up, that was literally also the point of Zoro:
Not only the numbers, but they have in combo a overall good and strong crew, at each new step a stronger beast pirate shows up(Even though Apoo is a special one who should be at least at flying six lvl too) which make it harder for Luffy and Zoro to deal with it.
In normal states Luffy shouldn´t get much problems, but the numbers and strong pirates, in combo with very strong characters as Ulti and Pageone, I wouldn´t be surprise if Luffy don´t showing the things in next chapter which we expect, which means I can even see a "hype" chapter for Ulti+Pageone overall.
Luffy and Zoro didn´t yet reach the calamity or Kaido himself, but seeing Zoro states in the panel above and also Luffy in current chapter, it little show that the raid don´t gonna be easy...
If Luffy and Zoro already getting in kinda these states(injuries) and having problems, it literally hard to believe how the other strawhats and other alliance member gonna deal with that. We speaking about 4Supernova(+Kid crew) and they already having big trouble, in adding that they "only" face until now Apoo+1Number and Headliners.
And after Ulti and Pageone, the next and last previous step gonna show up before Kaido making his move, one Calamity and I want to see how Luffy going though these walls.
For sure the war will be very exicting and I want to see how the Alliance deal with such a strong force. It make sense for me why Oda try to hold back the Big mom pirates, the alliance can´t get the problem to deal with a another Yonkou crew, that is for sure...

Honestly the only thing I really liked in this chapter was the Ulti/Pay-Pay stuff. Their relationship is really cute, so I kinda hope that they get a bit more character, and aren't just used as hypetools. The rest of the chapter irritates me. Some of it's small like Kaido and Orochi not taking Luffy serious is an eye roll moment. It's just like "okay so all villains are just incompetent alright". The Marco stuff is really weird. Apparently him and Nekomamushi left separately, but they arrived at the same time. Then his message is a completely worthless plot point. So I don't understand what the point of any of that was. The Sasaki/Denjiro thing really messes with me. Like I can understand that maybe just killing people goes against Denjiro's morals (first of all let's remind ourselves that this is a guy whose face literally distorted from anger), but at least knock him out or something. Leaving him tied up just allows him to join the fight and hurt your men, so that's all his fault.
The Big Mom stuff is thing that actually made me angry. This is a YONKO, and she's being treated like a minor annoyance. It honestly feels like Oda has no idea how to use this character, it's the same feeling I got when Marco kicked the Big Mom pirates back down the waterfall. Which just raises the question, why are they even here? Big Mom serves as a Deus ex Machina to get Luffy out of Udon, gives Chopper something to do, and doesn't actually contribute to anything else. I think it's fair to say that the Big Mom stuff has been worse content of this arc. He's just like "ah have her chase some people for a couple chapters". If Nami is somehow able to get Prometheus after this that might be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
I gave this an average rating for two reasons: the Ulti/Page One is good and I kinda like Black Maria. This chapter is still really bad, but those two things at least make me happy. Man, it's been a long time since a chapter got me this angry.

Looks can be deceiving in One Piece.
Lucky Roo is one of the fastest character in the series yet he is fat.
Speed Jiru looks fat but he could reach to Kizaru's laser.
What if Ulti is physically the strongest Flying Six? Her stamina is bad so to make up for it her physical strength is above the other Flying Six. It doesn't make sense that Flying Six who is above headliner has stamina issue.
