This is what happens when you read JJK without watching other shonens lol, gojo's defeat was obvious from the start.
It was step by step, the same method used on yamamoto x yhwach(its amazing how much stuff JJK copied from bleach lol).
Give the fans some hope, showcase the character at his best prior to killing him.

Gege doesn't like "gradual" growth, unless if it's over 10 years or something. The fact that he made Nobara defeat a Special grade curse so fast is proof of this.
He already made Maki Toji level after she was only Grade 2 level. Yuji after eating 6 Death Paintings probably is Naobito level, with his biggest issue being the lack of any counter to Domains or hax.
If he wants to, Yuji could surpass Yuta/Maki/Hakari with whatever Kenjaku expects from him and blast to Yorozu level at least in a chapter
