Kuma definitely was preprogrammed to step in when he's daughter is in danger. However you are correct. He isn't strong enough to fight Saturn.
Saturn can "repel" any damage he gets without Kuma's fruit. Oda is really hyping him up. However he's bound to go down.
Why doesn't Saturn aim straight for Nika now? It makes no sense!! The Gorosei were searching for the fruit 800 years but now when it's technically in front of Saturn he doesn't bother trying to grab it?
Is fear of Imu and following his command to get the motherflame clouding his judgement that much??
Looks like we'll get about 3-5 chapters of flashbacks now. Just hope it doesn't drag too long. We are bound to get a flashback for the One Piece soon enough too on top of the flashback after Saturn's defeat ... flashback chains ...

Nah, that's just speculation.
Aramaki's branches are hardened, so he's using hardening there.
His sword being black could be him using hardening or it being a Black Blade. That was ambiguous and never cleared up.
Given the official colours though, it seems like he was using hardening.
Every Black Blade in the manga has been called as such by the wielder.
Aramaki's blade on the other hand has never been said to be blackened.
