Character Discussion Anybody else disappointed with Kuma's reveal?

#41
Was expecting Kuma to be a bit more badass and do something significant to be a Warlord, but he's just some cuck priest who beat some navy fodders.

I mean if you compare it to Doflamingo, killing his own father and creating one of the greatest underworld empires, or Moria who challenged Kaido... Well, it doesn't really compare does it? Also, we've kind of already been through the slave thing with with Boa so it's nothing new and her story was better too.

I will say though, the flashback has been better than that shit we got with Oden.

Your snowflake act is worse.
Only liberal idiots throw around soft words like that when someone is making a good point. It's way more likely your the soft one. I just think the story is shit and you can't take that I'm right.

Basically this. There's like a 2 percent chance oda has a big reveal or plan that makes the flashback a coherent idea but most likely he's just trying to top himself in tragic backstory and wasted my time and Kuma's life being redundant try hard. I think it's distasteful and hacky and the idea that Luffy the main character with the biggest falloff in shounen history is going to deliver justice is cringe. Like at this point who wants to see celestial dragons get punched in the face for literal rape and torture. God forbid somebody outside of Luffy and his family actually have some importance to the story.

Kuma could have died as a slave instead of died as a slave with extra steps.

I'm agree that he being a spy for them sake of the revolutionry would be better for me.

Like Oda could use Ginny story as a excuse for Kuma do become this super-revo instead of anyther "doing for my kids"
While I agree this scenario could built a more complicated story, it is kinda inconsistent with Kuma's character.

He is basically a plain, meek, and warmth character.
Kuma was too innocent to plan himself becoming double agent (or something like that) and betraying WG who cure his daughter.

"Because WG has already made me suffer and even did serious harm to my lover, I will revenge them.
Let's exploit their technology to cure my daughter while I play trojan horse role and destroy them from inside."
:josad:

Don't you think it is kinda a regress for his character if he really do that?

I would have loved the flashback if it were original but after the 4th time of recycled backstories and characters the impact is just not there

Let me tell you something snowflake.

When I read the story of what happened to Ginny and Kuma, I digest the struggles that they went through. The heartache and the loss, and the pain that is felt. I look at the Bonney situation and take in the fact that Kuma is trying to get a little bit of redemption for what happened to Ginny.

I take in the message that's being conveyed through the backstory.

When YOU look at the Kuma backstory, all your mind focuses on is rape, torture, murder, etc... The sicko is you, who only focuses on the disgusting parts, while disregarding the overall message.

So you can take your self righteous 'I'm right" bullshit and shove up your ass.

What's better. A flashback about a cliche'd "spy working for the greater good" plot line that people theorized 15 years ago, when Kumas connection to the Revolutionaries was revealed, or a story about a man who only ever cared about the people around him, and even at the expense of his own well being,
the second example sounds very cliché tbh
Kuma the Tyrant's evil rampage....

:pepehands:
If you think Kuma being a slave having his parents killed, saving 500 people two of which becoming revolutionaries only for his girl to be captured, raped, just so she can die and give birth to a terminally I'll child that Kuma then sacrifices his mentality to cure only to become a slave again is good writing them your sick af. It's literally torture porn and Oda gives zero fucks about kuma.Kuma.

Oda could have focused his character on being a powerful combatant, or a mastermind, or somebody making a huge impact. Nope he just made Kuma a perpetual loser slave who ended up in the same situation every single step of his life was having his loved ones killed by celestials and never so much as laying a hand on one his entire life. It's also a stupid reason of Robin literally reading about Kuma and his abilities but in thriller bark she found out his power for the first time?

I thought kyros got screwed over in life but that's nothing compared to Kuma.
Kuma is Kyros 2.0. Their daughters even have the same hair color
Torture porn? Did you just turn old enough to get the age restricted viewing option shut off on your TV? If you think this toned down depiction of the atrocities of the World is brutal and sick, you ain't seen nothing of the World yet, man....

I got some series for you that will give you nightmares. Series regarded as top notch in story telling.
What, Berserk?:saden:

I've read a "spy working for the greater good" story a thousand times.

Never read a story where a ranking officer in an army working to save the World, gives up his position and sacrifices his life to save the child of the woman he loves, but was unable to ever be with.

Hey we don't know if they were ever together, they were pretty close for a long time and even talked about marriage.
By the way I don't see how he could have been a spy, given that everyone and their mother knew about him being with the Revos.

The only actual complaint I have is the forced Nika bs. Besides that it’s been really good and true to form for One Piece. The care that Oda has shown for the Warlords is great.

Oda tries really hard to surprise us whenever he can (Nika, Yamato...) so I think it's actually refreshing that he stayed grounded and went with the more obvious answer this time.

That's because it's not a good story. It's like million dollar baby if all the fight scenes were off paneled.:milaugh:

it's 2023 and people still cry about One Piece when something doesn't go their way...lol

Pathetic
What did you gain from the flashback? Bonney is literally 12 and for all we know her crew is in jail. Kuma is almost certainly about to die. Vegapunk imo is ruined because he crippled the Revolutionaries for funds and to create an army and now decided to leave all his work behind to save his own hide. Dragon looks inept and luffy is literally sleeping. We got introduced to a revolutionary officer who's only feat is being violated in the most disrespectful manner absolutely no gain was made in taking down the wg. Big mom got speed blitzed by arms.

Garp looks like a fool. Nothing more of Rocks vs Roger was revealed. Garling is just a nasty human being with no feats. Kong got dehyped. Kuma's strenght is as ambiguous as ever. Kizaru might become a nika fanboy. Moria was about as sleep as Luffy is present time. I didn't actually read the chapters but Dragon kidnapping a celestial or finding out who's Bonney father is or even interacting with Bonney didn't happen.

About the only interesting good thing that happened is we know Dragon was a marine. Even when we go back to present time we have a goursei holding down a yonkou level commander with his mind, lucchi vs Zoro off paneled and Luffy unconscious after landing one punch to an admiral who was one shot.
Everybody has been dehyped except Saturn who is probably going to be dehyped right as Kuma explodes or something.

If you ever read a good book where every page is interesting and you read interesting good things every page. Even the dialouge is good. When a character dies it has impact and is well written. Oda's writing style has been bullet points since timeskip.

Law has been on screen for a decade and all we know about him is he hates bread is a D and is kinda sorta trying to be pirate king. Kuma was a slave and he's trying to make the world less painful but he has no weight in the story other than to help the main character who doesn't know what's going on or really care.
