My vision is different from both "we should separate the man from the artist " and "we should kill the author". My vision is that art has the POTENTIAL to represent the best a person can do in life. Therefore I see art done by abusers as something wonderful that a very problematic person as done. In other world, I chooses to see the light in the darkness.
But this doesn't mean that I won't boycott financially a very problematic artist if they are alive. Simply because financing a problematic artist finance also their problematic ideas. If MJ was alive, I would illegally download his music, I would boycott the man until justice is served. When and only when the man will understand and take responsibility for his actions, we can talk about rehabilitation and forgiveness.
Its a matter of being just. I accept and recognize the art in most cases, but this doesn't mean that I need to recognize the artist to when they don't take responsibility for their actions.
