Oda cops out of deaths for a lot of minor/side characters but if the death is for a major character he will go through with it.

Kuma's full death is just too juicy not to use and he's already a half-dead cyborg anyway, he's like the most perfect character to kill off and get a beautiful scene out of without resorting to one of the SHs themselves.
