I doubt it. Mihawk probably beat some marines for the same reason he destroyed Don Krieg's fleet, then he became a wanted man. Sometime after that, he probably defeated a former admiral (Zephyr? It's known that he had his arm cut by a warlord, but would make more sense if he was a swordsman though).
