My family comes from india, so basically everyone in my family was married that way.
I think a big reason for the popularity of arranged marriages in india is the desire to maintain culture across generations in a heterogeneous society.
Indians are divided by ethnicity, caste, and religion. If you get an arranged marriage, you are most often marrying someone in the same ethnicity, caste, and religion as yourself. If that’s what you want, then go ahead.
But that’s not what everyone wants, which creates issues.
For example, my uncle was in a long term relationship with this lady from a different caste, before my grandfather forced them to break up.
My other uncle did marry outside caste and ethnicity and while my grandfather was alive, he was always an asshole to my aunt’s side of the family specifically because they were of a different cast and ethnicity.
Because my ethnicity is an uber minority in America, I decided to just convert to Judaism, which I’m sure would cause issues if my family ever tried to arrange marry me(not that I think they would)

Regarding marriage it somewhat makes sense for one to care about caste.
Indian caste is in many ways an extension of one’s ethnicity.
People from my specific caste and ethnicity have a common origin and culture, that other castes wouldn’t.
Not that I particularly care, after all I’ll probably marry a white Jew.
But I see why it is important for other people.

it's a form of segregation. Inter-caste marriages are looked down upon. Colonial Spanish America also had a caste system, which was horrible and oppressive. It was so ridiculous that even white Spaniards born in the colonies were looked down upon cause they were born on "dirty soil."

My grandparends and grandgrandparents were married arrenged, and Im from Latvia. Still managed to love each other till death parted them and were really happy and in love, my grandfather died just month after hes wife from heartache. Some arrenged marriages work. And at that time they had no other way, It was to benefit both sides. But I guess some could have gotten bad man as husbands and etc. I believe marriage isnt what it used to be and is no longer necessary in modern world.

Hamas really is just a reflection of Israel’s own violence that it has been perpetuating for decades.

Gaza isn’t a country. Its people are stateless. They have been stateless for 75 years. They are stateless because israel is occupying them while refusing to give them the equal rights of Jewish Israelis.
