Speculations Is there any doubt that the “certain pirate” Shanks was telling the Gorosei about was Luffy?

The only two real possibilities are Luffy or BB. Shanks wasn’t going to the Gorosei to snitch about the silver medalists Kaido and BM, and he certainly wasn’t snitching about Kid, Law, or any of the bronze medalist Warlords. BB is the obvious choice since Shanks was already shown to be wary of him, but BB is such an obvious choice that it doesn’t even make sense for Oda to be so secretive about who the “certain pirate” is. The end of Wano showed that Shanks clearly has some interest in Nika, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he was actually snitching about Luffy. After hearing about how Luffy defeated YC1 Katakuri and was declared the “5th Emperor”, Shanks probably realized that Luffy would soon awaken his DF and decided to inform the Gorosei about it.

More like shanks wank is ruining your head
Shanks at the end of WCI, after reading about him becoming 5th Emperor -> “We’ll be meeting again soon Luffy”

Shanks literally the next time we see him -> “Gorosei-sama, there’s a certain pirate I want to talk about”

Gorosei during Wano -> “We need to kill Luffy no matter what, even if it means angering Kaido!”

Shanks at the end of Wano, right after looking at Nika’s bounty poster -> “It’s time to claim the One Piece”

The “certain pirate” being Teach is such an obvious red herring. He’s literally the first person who every reader immediately thought of when we read that line. Why would Oda be so tight-lipped about who that “certain pirate” was if it was just Teach, the extremely obvious, straightforward, and predictable answer? And why would Oda be portraying Shanks in such a shady light during that scene if all he was doing was being a good boy and trying to stop someone as evil and dangerous as Teach?

Given Shank's whole "keeping the peace" mentality, I wouldn't be surprised if it's our local Sun God at this point in the story. You are right; it is quite predictable for it to be Teach. He's already an existential threat to Shanks, from the moment he underestimated him when they were kids to the fateful duel years later. In the Oden flashback, Buggy correctly stated that he is a monster. Shanks just thought the guy was having twice as much fun from lack of sleep. To add more salt to the wound, there was no way Shanks could attack him when he was still a crewmember under WB.

Meanwhile, Luffy out here doing everything and being put in constant danger during his journey, and Shanks has been protecting him through some direct interventions like Marineford. Not too little, not too much, just a small nudge to make sure he doesn't die. I like to think he gave the Gorosei a sinister warning or an ultimatum.

At the end of the day, there are no two characters who live rent-free in Shanks head more than Goofy and Mr. Zehahahaha.

Yeah I’m pretty sure shanks told them information about luffy and his fruit. Likely trading info with them and obviously not actually being on their side. Him either gaining info on the missing road poneglyph and/or Uranus

The world government definitely has information on both. Even Blackbeard is planning on trading in Garp to them to make his country a part of the world government to get close to them

Also, why would Shanks be snitching on BB at that moment? BB had done literally nothing in between the start of post-TS and the Reverie. It makes more sense that he’s talking to them about the pirate who just made headlines around the world and is being propped up as 5th Emperor

There really isn’t any reason lol. Blackbeard and mihawk stans just don’t want shanks to be actually important/relevant unless it helps their agenda. Bb beating shanks hypes him and shanks fighting luffy hurts mihawk

Shanks mentioning luffy also adds to why the gorosei were so afraid of luffy’s potential during onigashima. Shanks has his own goals outside of just luffy, Blackbeard, or buggy and is his own character. He just like them is going after the one piece with his own reasons and agenda

Something tells me Shanks needs Luffy in order to beat Blackbeard. We haven’t really explored Shank’s hesitancy to go after Teach and he continues to accumulate more power. Whatever agenda or mission Shanks has for going after the One Piece, it seems like this is now or never.

My guess is Shanks was waiting for Joyboy to return or the fruit to awaken, and that coincides with probably the conditions Roger told him. Methodical characters like him are extremely careful to reveal their cards but possess a great weakness for running out of time. I wonder how far and successful he will be with his plan.

Shanks --- I want to Talk to You about "Someone" (He is warning World Government)
Caribou --- I need to Tell that "Someone" about Ancient Weapons (500 Chapters of Teasing)
Oda --- That "Someone" will Fight (Bigger Fight than Yonko or Admirals or Old Legends)
Narrator --- Egghead Ending is gonna be Shocking

It's neither Luffy nor Blackbeard, Oda is simply Preparing for Introduction of Final Villain
And He keeps Implying that He is not One of Yonko or Part of World Government or Dragon
His Name is "Elbaf"

Shanks was talking about Buggy imo. He hyped up his Crossguild something fierce and is covering for Luffy by redirecting some of the heat to Buggy (who's in good hands right now). I expect Shanks to be kind of a pyscho, but with a good heart. He might be unhinged enough to think he's giving his ol friend Buggy some free clout.

If it wasn't, it was Blackbeard because Shanks warned Whitebeard about Blackbeard as well. Not to mention his rising status and the scar he left.

It’s clearly Luffy or Blackbeard
Between those two its not even a competition. Shanks warned WB about BB and has a personal grudge with him. He's clearly fond of Luffy so it wasn't him he was talking about. I mean he forced Mihawk to drink with him when he first got a bounty, Shanks has nothing to gain by celebrating.
