Speculations Is there any doubt that the “certain pirate” Shanks was telling the Gorosei about was Luffy?

I mean, im not saying it HAS to be Luffy, but it being Teach makes little sense to me because:

1. We've known for years Shanks and Teach hate each other
2. Why would Oda hid the name of the pirate if Teach is the obvious choice

It just makes little sense as an author to lay out the obvious and then NOT specify the obvious if it IS in fact the obvious lol.

Edit: This is, in fact, why Red Herrings exist....
1) a very similar reasoning could have been done for the Tenth Titanic captain of BB.
We know Aokiji was with them, so why keep it a secret for hundreds of chapters (and even hinting at the end of DR) if the answer was the most obvious and the one we had since day one?

Because Oda likes building up tension anytime, anywhere, even if there is no real reason to do it in the first place.

Also, admitting he had a plan, because that was not the perfect moment to highlight that information: the perfect moment came at Hachinsou, where Aokiji's new "choice" was exalted in his FB and his fight with Garp;

2) also, since that dialogue was after we learned the first thing about Rocks, imho what Shanks wanted to say about Teach was not some generic bullshit along the lines of "he is worrisome, so do something".
Instead, I think Shanks wanted to reveal Teach's connection with Xebec, in some way. A connection that we ourselves have caught, but without the specific and in-manga this is still a piece of totally new information.

That was also because his dialogue was left like that. It will be a confirmation/new information even for us.

I suppose now we can safely say that yes, it was indeed BB.
Honestly that has pretty scary implications on Shanks lol. Look how evil Saturn actually is, and look how much Saturn despises all Pirates including Blackbeards own brand of evil. Now multiply that by 5 men.

If he's warning them about Blackbeard, then it frankly entirely supports that he's working for them one way or another. The WG doesnt want to keep the peace and Shanks isnt an idiot, he sees the atrocities they commit as well.

Edit: honestly its shocking to me that, regardless of who anyone thinks it is, people barely acknowledge the scene itself as a strong implication that Shanks isnt exactly who we think.

The Gorosei didn't know anything about Teach --> now they know about his/race/Bloodline/whatever (which according to Catarina is kind of a secret) --> the man most obsessed with Teach in the world just talked to them about a "certain pirate"

True, that could indeed have unforeseen implications and cast a new light on Shanks, more so now that his origins are not a secret anymore.

What evidence is there that they only just found out about his lineage?

The Gorosei didn’t know about the Gomu Gomu’s secret identity until Wano

The evidence is that they didn't know anything about Teach, and now they know. What a coincidence, after Shanks talked to them.

About the narrative problem of the Nika Nika revelation we have talked multiple times, so.

Obv, there isn't an explicit confirmation, but I dare to say it is extremely likely.

Because they have never mentioned It, even when talking about him (After DR), and the fact they did after Shanks talked to them is quite telling imho.

But if you are asking for explicit confirmation, we don't have any. That's why I phrased my first message like that and I didn't say "it is confirmed".
I think it's very likely and implied though: Shanks has always talked about Teach, is obsessed with him, and now this.

So why keep it such a secret by saying "a certain pirate" instead of just namedropping Teach. Everyone and their mom immediately guessed it was Teach. Does Oda think his readers are retards?

Oda often goes for that useless tension. Remember the fake Oden "plot twist", just to say the very first that came to my mind?

BB didn’t go to Wano because he was scared of running into Shanks
As if he knew shanks is still suffering from PTSD that he will go to wano just for BB 🤣🤣🤣

Or it can simply means BB lineage is big deal and shanks want WG to know what they are about to face....

It's just like WB thing - shanks warned him that BB will come for WB territories.

Nothing to do with Shanks being evil

There are people still pushing evil Shanks even though he fondly thinks of luffy in 1055
Shanks fans are something else

They want him to be Fv instead of WG or BB when he actually has no buildup for it... just because their headcannon...

No wonder they still thinks shanks is hakiman 🤣🤣🤣
