Is this your annual wishes for Shanks being top 1?
WB, Kaido and BM are out of the race and yet nobody has hyped Shanks as top 1 in the story
Not even the narrator when Shanks won against Kid
Even Teach starts claiming the race is open BECAUSE KAIDO AND BM are out
Why would Teach think this if Shanks was always above Kaido or is current top 1?
Kaido never said those 5 are above him nor that they defeated him
Also he fought Roger and Xebec when he wasn't in prime
He never lost ever since he got his fruit!
Oden was close but lost still ...that wasn't even WSC kaido yet
Shanks will never be above any top 5 Rocks pirate (Shiki, BM, Kaido, WB, Xebec)
There's no statement nor stat that places Shanks even equal to Kaido !

Kaido's top 5 is about people who COULD defeat him, not that they necessarily defeated him.
Big mom fought on equal foot to him for several days, but she doesn't have enough AP to put him down.
Prime shiki is stronger than BM and was the YC2 of rocks pirates, still he has no way to defeat kaido.
Garp was a disappointment in hachinosu with the portrayal of being a glasscannon which is an unforgivable weakness against the durability and endurance KING.
Sengoku couldn't knock non haki non awakened marineford luffy with an upclose shockwave...
Mihawk spent his time hunting don krieg, hiding FAR AWAY from yonkos so, aside from shanks, they most likely don't even know about that.

Xebec didn't defeat him, he wanted him in his crew and Kaido accept it.
Oden also didn't defeat him, he land a clear good cut but Kaido was far away of using his true power(adv CoC+Hybrid form/Drunken form)

Shanks was clean in MF, didn't had any injury, means he didn't fought Kaido. Probably just a small clash where Kaido witness the power of Shanks.

This is purely headcanon but instead of power, I always liked to think of it as a clockwise order of significant events in Kaido's history:
1) Xebec - First real encounter around 46 years ago at age 15. Joined the crew and saw his strength.
2) Roger - Between 46 - 38 years ago. Kaido implied in chapter 1096 at God Valley that he had a previous encounter with Roger.
3) Newgate - Either during their time on rocks or the years following their dissolution.
4) Oden - Gave him the scar 20 years ago (and lifetime PTSD).
5) Shanks - Right before Marineford when Shanks intercepted and some clash ensured.
Does this mean it's true? Well, I'm reading twopiece and it's confirmed there.

We literally know for a fact that Kaido was defeated 7 times in the past. As I’ve already explained, Oden was literally shown giving Kaido an L, and Roger, WB, and Xebec very clearly did too.
What do you even gain from denying that Roger, WB, and Xebec defeated Kaido? They were the 3 strongest characters back then, so by denying that they gave Kaido his L’s, that means that some weaker characters than them handed Kaido his L’s. Kaido fans are so dumb that they end up inadvertently downplaying Kaido lol.
Kaido would never follow Xebec unless it was proven that Xebec is stronger than him
