For that I’m glad Kizaru got extra characterization and got somehow humanized even if he’s still a bad guy.
Oda is a pretty classic writer, the ones who get clowned the hardest in this series are the comically evil buffoons.

Luffy vs Kizaru is by far one of the worst fights in One Piece, it’s insane how much Oda fumbled Luffy’s first fight against an admiral and our first admiral vs yonko fight

He should have had a build up for it. Maybe have Kizaru and Sanji with Jimbei clash and Sanji and Jimbei be hypetooled then maybe as Kizaru is about to attack Bonney that's when round 1 should have started IMO.

Luffy beating an Admiral 1 on 1 should be the moment most fans have been waiting for. All this crying is from salty Sanji and Zoro fans who've argued for years which one of them will get Kizaru but in the end he was Luffy's prey.

Luffy just immediately jumps to G5. Against Lucci and against Kizaru. How can Oda believe this is remotely good? Build up is needed. Let Luffy use his first gears first. Use some Haki skills and ultimately ACoC.
