The only reason Rayleigh wasn't overshadowed that much by oden is because he's also a conqueror

That's not a fault with Zoro, it's a fault with Oda's writing. Plotcage was a dumb idea to try and raise the stakes and it almost completely sabotaged the Dressrosa arc.
