It was good.
Cinematic masterpiece.
Like if it was dragged for so long could have been in my top 5.

Is wasn't such a good fight as people said. Luffy vs Lucci way better.

Oda made future sight being a key element to defeat Katakuri and when Luffy finally learned it he stopped using it. Then OK the premise of Snakeman was to be so fast that even with FS Katakuri wouldn't be able to react to him. Then after just the first punch that got him by surprise (similar against Doflamingo) where Katakuri could at least coat himself with haki to prevent greater damage then he procceded to avoid 99% of Snakeman attacks including the fastest one Black Mamba. The fight ends with the impression of Katakuri choosing to tank an attack he could easily avoid. Then Katakuri who fell later and got up first just so he can fall again and give Luffy the false sensation of being the winner. And that I'm talking about the peak of the fight. There is the whole problem of Katakuri with incredible stronger haki giving Luffy tons of punches and not knocking him down and also having his sister to help him while he was already winning. So it is a fight where Luffy went from someone who couldn't even touch Katakuri to someone who people THINK he beated him(in my opinion Luffy lost that fight). Just fucking terrible.

I had this opinion when seeing the fight and I maintain it.

Just because Luffy vs Kaido was a greater asspull doesn't mean Luffy vs Katakuri is not an asspull anymore.
Agreed

Limb wristed Latakuri of the 11 hits fight will never be good. No amount of aging can salvage it.
Luffy vs Kaido was not half as one sided as Katakuri on Luffy violence was.

Katakuri breaking the 4th wall hard by noticing how plot armor keeps Luffy conscious.

Incredible how people don't care about story consistency or logic if they get a choregraphy.
How is Luffy vs Katakuri ''the best fight in the manga'' no less ?
It was riddled with plot armor and bs tropes.
Katakuri beat Luffy numerous times but still lost somehow and even then he just went on his back for reasons...it was an incredibly silly fight and one of the worst.

In terms of panel and fight choreography it's still the best fight, just look at this:

And they say One Piece fights are not good...

Best individual fight of post timeskip.
I also feel like Luffy should've lost the fight
Based on how the fight was... right?

I feel that Luffy have won the fight. There is no way the story can keep going without he winning. He breaking the mirror and locking himself with Katakuri and all others is awesome!

But Oda messed up the fight so much that there is no way it can't look like an asspull for Luffy to win.

And is not like Oda can't make fights that are hard as fuck for the protagonist without looking like an asspull.

Look at Luffy vs Lucci. It was hard as fuck for Luffy. He needed his new gears that had big drawbacks (G3 more than G2) to surpass Lucci similar how Luffy needed G4 to surpass Katakuri (even greater drawback) and as the fight goes the opponent gets used to the new gear.

The thing is. G2 allowed Luffy to overcome Lucci in speed and strength. G3 allowed Luffy to overcome Lucci in strenght by A LOT while giving all his speed. That allowed Luffy to only hit G3 once and then he missed all other attacks and never again used. With G2 drawback every new activation became weaker so instead of overcoming Lucci he was just matching him. And the end he used the rest of his energy to give Lucci the strongest combo (since gattling gun are a bunch of punches and was the fastest attack he ever did on that fight).

Now with Katakuri... His G4 Boundman overcame Katakuri strength but not speed (similar to G3) and he only managed to hit because Katakuri wasn't calm enough to use FS (the key factor of this fight). Then with Snakeman where Luffy was suppose to overcome Katakuri speed since he didn't overcame him in strength he also failed in that. Katakuri was still dodging 99% of the attacks and showing to be faster than Snakeman since he could dodge and hit at same time. Not only that but FS that Luffy was learning during the fight wasn't even used in the final part. Last clash I have the impression that Katakuri chose to tank the attack instead of evading like he was doing before. Not only that but we clearly see how he falls just after Luffy is on the ground with blank eyes (Katakuri is the winner then). After the 10 min Luffy needs to recover haki he crawls out of the hole and see Katakuri stand up before him (again Katakuri is the winner) and then after a dick sucking speech to meaningless hype up Luffy he chooses to fall once again now on his back. This is straight bullshit.

In my opinion Katakuri won. I don't see that as Luffy's victory. Maybe a draw only.

Where exactly?

This fight really highlights just how god fucking awful Kizaru vs Luffy was...
Luffy vs Kizaru is not a fight to beat each other.

Snakeman fuckin rules though. Easily my second favorite form. Wish it got more breathing room before... THAT. So it kinda feels pointless but hey what're ya gonna do.
I'm scared to ask what your favorite form is

lmfao, I swear Oda didn't have to make an entire arc on Sanji because of that picture he looked at in Jaya...
What picture?

2 more power ups in Wano; prison haki and then gear 5.
3 power ups.

Internal Damage (prison haki, lol), CoC coating and G5

It is a good fight, yet people still fail to understand that this fight has like 4 rounds with different goals and knowledge.

Luffy at the end, defeated and solo'ed Katakuri while he needed help vs Doflamingo
Not actually. The whole fight is about overcoming Katakuri. Maybe we could say it has 2 parts with 2 goals... 3 if we push...

The 4 rounds:

1 - Before Tea Time

Luffy is completely clueless of what he is doing at fight. Nothing he does works against Katakuri and all his movements are inferior to Katakuri until he tries to pull G4 and then Katakuri digs him in his awakening. So there is no much goal/knowledge here while already having the first asspull of Katakuri being unaware Luffy would survive this.

2 - Post Tea Time

Here we have Katakuri getting angry and losing his calm then exposing to Luffy the weakness of his FS ability. Here Luffy for the first time hits Katakuri and have a small window of opportunity to beat him almost freely and maybe even end the fight but then Katakuri gets his calm back again and he take control of the fight once more.

3 - 10 minutes after G4 drawback

After Luffy used Brulee to escape from Katakuri and recover his haki then Luffy is decided to use this fight against Katakuri to learn FS as well. Then when he go back into Mirror World he is trying to be calm and focus on his CoO to predict movements in the future.

4 - G4 Snakeman

Here is the final clash where the goal is to finally have a winner for this fight. Luffy using a transformation that is supposed to be faster than Katakuri and overcome his FS with speed without Luffy using the FS he just learned before this.

I'd say the only 2 goals of this fight were after Luffy get in Mirror World again to learn FS and then to beat Katakuri. I don't see much goal before that since Luffy wasn't really sure about what he could do. And talking about getting help... Luffy used Brulee to avoid the fight while he didn't had haki just like people of Dressrosa ran around with Luffy until he got his haki back. Katakuri stabbed himself to be under same conditions as Luffy after Flampe got in their fight and made Katakuri hit Luffy just like Luffy and Doflamingo stated each other to be equally damaged.

So if Luffy had help against Doflamingo he also had against Katakuri. Doflamingo wanking is absurd since Oda makes sure to always put fighters under same conditions before last round. Luffy vs Kaido was the same.

1. Lucci vs Luffy
2. Zoro vs Daz
3. Zoro vs Kaku
4. Luffy vs Usopp
5. Luffy vs Doffy
I don't like Zoro vs Kaku that much (Pre TS right?). Zoro vs King should be right after Zoro vs Daz.

I also don't like Luffy vs Usopp. Would have Luffy vs Doffy in 4th and Luffy vs Katakuri in 5th.

Dressrossa zoro would have actually beaten him and also much quicker.
Zoro can beat almost all Luffy's villains in the same arc. I guess the only one were Buggy and MAYBE Enel.

Actually Luffy got 4 power ups as he also gained Emission/Barrier Haki, the power up Luffy was aiming for, though he accidentally achieved Internal Damage as well. Man Oda really pampered Luffy in Wano.
I never saw him using it

Okayish, I like how they gained each other respect during the fights although I know that's one of the aspect people didn't like.
But tbh Katakuri didn't strike me as the normal villain when we first met him. We will probably see more of him in the future, I think Oda likes him a lot and the Pudding plot will bring him back into the story. And of course he won't be outdated strength wise, Oda will boost him compared to what we've seen in WCI.

About the fight itself, some chapters had good choreography especially the ones where Luffy is in G4.

I was never super into the fight. Luffy was im big moms territory so he should have fought big mom. Of course he would have lost but that's all the nore reason he shouldnt have been invading a yonkou's territory. As strong as he made Katakuri he stills falls a bit to power creep. Katakuri as a character is great though. Oda should have came up with something more impressive than Snakeman to take down katakuri.

Said the Zoro fan who awakens a power mid fight in every fight uh

Sanji and Jinbe should have defeated Katakuri. Snakeman is the worst power up Luffy ever got and FS should have been restricted to actual CoO specialists, like Sanji, Koby, and Katakuri himself.

The Mirrow world was a really cool place for a fight tho :goyea:

I almost forgot about the merienda thing. One Piece at its worst

When I see this thread, the only question I have is, when did I manage to get so old?
It seems like only yesterday that I was watching the anime
Life is really strange
Jesus you just reminded of me buying One Piece out of middle school at the shop..
And we are talking about early 20 volumes of one Piece.

Like every character in a shonen manga and even less than most.
Can you name all the fights and the power ups he got ? You will probably find less than 5 times.
Luffy gets multiple power ups per fight lol
I didn't mention power ups though did I ?
I was talking about how the fight went and how Luffy never managed to ''defeat'' Katakuri in the traditional way. Kata just went to sleep willingly lmao
Zoro is way too much in your mind, he is not real you know ?

My man in christ you talk about plot armor and bs tropes (without mentioning them, and bs tropes encompasses power up for shonen, but I guess that you are just randomly spouting buzzwords now) but are a fan of a walking trope yourself, so much that you identify as him making him your propic and name on a forum.. You know Zoro is not real, right?
I don't know why 5 is a relevant number, but every important fight Zoro has with a non-fodder he awakens a new power, it happens with Kaku out of nowhere, with King and and with mr.1, again out of nowhere for mr.1.
At least in Luffy v Katakuri you see Luffy trying to learn it from Katakuri himself.
I don't understand why Luffy winning a battle of principle with the best choreography so far in the manga is such a problem for you.
And again, Luffy "did not win".
Don't you guys ever get tired of saying that Luffy never wins his fights?
:gokulaugh:
