Oda and his editors ruined this manga.
1.When they changed the art to make it less detaiked and luffy to look more childlike along with chopper.
2. Usless character involvment and under developed poorly thought out character decisions. Oda created interesting characters but gave them pointless arcs or wrote them off. Popularity polls dictate what a character does or if they will be seen again rather than just keeping interesting characters around wether they are liked or not.
3. Characters are now one dimensional
4.plot armor and pis.
5. To touch on your point, oda is an artist and sometime around impel down up to current it's obvious Oda is tired of the romance pirate theme and will find an excuse to write about something else. Most other manga artist finish their stories and can write something else. Oda has been writing about pirates for close to 30 years and its obvious he wants to write about samurai and norse mythology mechs etc. Nika is just him wanting to draw cartoons becauae he never has and wanted to try.

Yeah this is why Luffy had these rubber power, it's because his mythical zoan was always active
it just wasn't awakened.
But I prefer thinking nika was indeed a retcon because this ruins fights like Luffy vs Croc or Luffy vs Lucci where Luffy won through willpower
way less cool if he only got up because of a mythical god zoan giving him fastened recovery and endurance

And that first part matters how? Your problem is apparently Luffy being carried by his fruit, but have zero qualms with devil fruit merchant Kizaru being literal veteran level without the pika pika no mi, take away Luffy's fruit and he still has almost complete mastery of haki.
And Luffy has been winning through sheer will and creativity for 95% of the manga, Nika shit only came about like 70 chapters ago.
