Calculation, is reason as pertains to mathematical truths, such as that 1 + 1 = 2

Science, is reason as pertains to empircal
truths, such as that the moon can be observed to travel in cycles

Both calculation and science are methods of logic, which lead to a specific type of knowledge

Thus science cannot be divorced from abstraction, since science relies on declaring something as true/false, is/isn't

And since abstraction is existence without matter, materialism is false, since not only material but abstract truths exist

To deny that abstract truths exist, knowledge & logic cease to exist, thus reason ceases to exist, and thus science

On a serious note though, the shadow of globalization is the biggest threat to the middle class and dwarfs political consideration. I think you could have dems in office for 12 years and it would still be utterly destroyed in that time, they're not really doing what's really needed to undo the damage and turn back the tide.
