Le Fishe Thread Reality check for otakus- successful combat athletes in real life are exactly like Eustass Kid, whereas the losers are like Shanks

IRL pirates wouldn't start fights they obviously would lose lol
Self-presvertion and common sense is a necessity for realistic people, picking fights while outnumbers and outgunned isn't it lol
The outnumbered part wouldnt have mattered, we saw in shanks vision that kids attack would have been successful just as he envisioned as it would have wiped out the fleet and left it for a fair fight crew vs crew. Kid just didnt see shanks around before preparing the attack and got snuck. It was pure plot. he would have never tried that attack if he saw shanks and his crew nearby

Given the conqueror haki users tendency to kneel and throw away their prides, the kid fandom better not make threads talking about how great kidd is if he comes back and kneels too, hold on to these standards you have rn
Sugoi can die on this hill, Kid throwing away his pride is part of his character arc and would make the character so much more likable.

He already somewhat did this in wano where he gave up fighting Kaido and focused on BM instead because he acknowledged Luffy was better equipped to face him. And then subsequently working with Law to beat Linlin, whereas previously he was opposed to alliances.

The absolute peak of Kid’s character would be if he got a mock town moment. Where he goes into a bar or something after his defeat and everyone laughs at him for getting destroyed by Shanks and the giant pirates. But rather than getting pissed and killing then like he otherwise would, he just doesn’t care because he realizes that needlessly killing fodder isn’t worth it.

Well you might be correct for Kidd mentality being one of few elements of attributes of successful .......but you can't ditch ppl like Luffy to be losers IRL if Kidd is the example of being successful, Luffy has the same spirit and if not more.

Luffy has the benefits of being the mc, everyone has their eyes on him and due to that ppl helps him, give him knowledge and trained him, and Luffy listened and can put away his pride.
Which is the difference between them
Luffy is the mc and Kidd isn't, the END
IRL, both gets killed in very early stage without plot armor and fate.
I agree Luffy shares those qualities with Kid, post is more directed at shanks tbh, but still, luffy irl would not succeed
IRL, most people attain success by by abiding by the law, being a functional and appreciated member of society and attaining wealth by doing a job. Neither luffy or kid are doing this, however, it is possible to be "successful" and attain wealth by being criminal, but they have to commit to it and let go of basic morals

half-ass criminals trying to be heroes at the same time aren't getting anything. Luffy would fail as a pirate in real life as he would just starve to death and get broke since they cant steal anything. And at the same time he's not abiding by the law either so he doesn't have a job. So he's just in no-mans land.

People are way more varied than that

Personally I believe an ego makes you weaker since relying on an ego means you need it to get by, which is easier than the alternative, not relying on it.

Reborn

Throughout Heaven & Earth,I alone am d Honored One
I was kind of on on-board with you until you start calling luffy and shanks losers.

Problem with kidd is he doesn't learn at all.

He defeated BM and then goes to Elbaf with one ship and few members to challenge RHP and their allies and even giants.

There is thin line between courage and stupidity and Kidd crossed that line to get portrayed as stupid

He has a realistic personality for a pirate that is trying to conquer and reach the top. If anything, hes actually way less "evil" than the average real life pirate and conqueror. Real life pirates were killing innocents just to take their stuff. Kid will only harm innocents if they have a go at him first. Or he only fight other pirates who have essentially mutually agreed to take part in the same competetion as him. That makes him both respectable but also retains a sense of realism of living the pirate life. Calling Kid a "villain" is just ridiculous. Hes only a villain if you compare him to someone like shanks, who should be part of my hero academia rather than a pirate manga
Kidd representing real-life pirates would make him a villain. Pirates were violent, murdering, thieving, rapist groups. Killing innocents to take their money and other belongings. You like Kidd's "realism", and Kidd's "realism" would place him into a villain role. I personally think of him as just being an asshole rather than a villain.

The straw hats and red hair pirates differ from most pirates in OP, especially the straw hats. The straw hats are really pirates in name only, but they are great.

This may also a be a bit of "might makes right" thinking, although I disagree that the most succesful people have that attitude, the most succesful have a Luffy-like attitude, as you called it, that of freedom and not wanting to rule.

I agree. Having an ego problem will get your ass in your trouble. Kidd's ego, hubris, and failure to know when to pick a battle vs. when to back the fuck off lead to his demise.

I am curious.

I know that you like Kid a lot, Sugoi.

But what is your opinion about other One Piece pirates?

Ace

Buggy

Roger
Ace was great, likeable guy, cool, badass ect, but at the same time, still had that attitude and savageness about him, if people disrespected him he attacks them, hes a fighter

Buggy is great, likeable, charismatic, funny, but still displays the quality of a pirate with his manipulation, greed and will harm people to get what he want

I hate roger. Completely inaccurate depiction of a pirate let alone pirate king. I seem him as an explorer not a pirate. Also not an interesting personality and quite a bland fighting style as well

I think Kidd will come back, get much stronger, but his personality will also change into what Sugoi calls a "loser" personality, because once he is strong enough he won't need to rely on his ego as a compromise due to lack of strength of character, and he will be free.

Kidd is a (relatively) mediocre and cocky athlete who got a reality check when he went up against someone much more talented. Very realistic, imo.
Completely false anyway. Kid and Law are much more talented than shanks, reaching this strength level and a bounty of 3B at early twenties, where shanks bounty was only 1B. Not to mention shanks grew up in rogers crew while kid and law had to work there way from the bottom, making both more talented and also harder working
