General & Others Worst fights in One Piece

#1
What your most disliked fights on One Piece, either due to the fights not making sense at all even by One Piece's odd standards, of the story being bad or too nonsensical to your taste, of them not being good visually or all of these combined ?

I didn't like Nami vs Kalifa very much, due to how goofy the thing was and how obviously outmatched Nami was and how she should have died ten times if the plot wasn't with her. Same with Nami vs Ulti.

Zoro vs Meowban Brothers, with Zoro struggling more than he should have against the brothers.

Zoro vs Pica. The thing of Zoro easily and repeatedly slicing Pica's golems and attacks, while Pica often used the same tactics and techniques and not inflicting any real wound on Zoro, and with Zoro repeatedly chasing Pica was quite annoying.

Zoro and Tashigi vs Monet. Oda wasted Tashigi badly in Punk Hazard, and this was his last chance to give her a chance to shine but he still didn't give her her moment, while Zoro was strangely holding back against Monet, and while him terrifying and slicing Monet was cool visuelly I still have my criticisms about this fight.

Law and Kid vs Big Mom. The way Oda was once again handicaping and holding back Big Mom after he had done this during all of WCI second half and most of Wano, not allowing her to use her full potential neither with her physical abilities, nor her haki nor her devil fruit while making Kid and Law tank her attacks without any issue while she didn't use her haki to counter theirs, was very infuriating and cringeworthy. Not counting how most of this "fight", if I can even call this a fight, was offscreened, and the bombs ending.
Oda visibly didn't know what he was doing with BM in Wano (if he ever did since the Tamatebakko explosion), and was desperate for an excuse to remove her as an antagonist.

Sanji vs Absalom, while there was the gag at the beginning between Sanji and Absalom about the Suke Suke no mi and Sanji's pervert dream, this fight was absolutely not exciting with Absalom being a very lackluster fighter and antagonist, especially compared to Sanji's previous opponents such as Mr 2 Bon Clay and Jabra.

Chopper and Robin vs Hogback and zombies, no need to explain why.

It's hard to say honestly. Like I'm really struggling to remember a fight I didn't like. I even liked Nami vs Ulti.

But the fight was Kaido was a man clearly out of ideas. The story ran with Luffy spending a shitload of time learning how to hurt Kaido and the idea fizzled out in the opening punch. Luffy spent all that time working on how to start a fight. Then he gets the second power up but gets dropped into the damn ocean, only to recover right back into full power. Then he loses again, except his fruit awakens without any effort whatsoever and makes him even stronger. Then Kaido has an epiphany and says you know what, I can still fight but you seem to be Joyboy so bye.

I tried to make it simple and in this process left out a few things that make it even dumber

Luffy vs Katakuri

Action wise it wasn't bad, and Luffy's snake man form was also pretty cool...

But my issue lies with how fucking badly written a character Katakuri is. He literally killed non-combatant chefs for seeing his face but later revealed it to his sister, he threw away his main weapon to have a 1 on 1 manly fight, he didn't chase Luffy even though he knew when gear 4 was going to end.

Katakuri had like 4 opportunities to end that fight but instead he decided to essentially betray his family which was the entire reason he was fighting to begin with.

For me it's how long and stalling the fight was and how Luffy should have died a hundred times, but survived and won due to plot armor, PIS and the Forgot about my powers tropes with Luffy having no counter to Katakuri's stickiness.

As well as how Luffy went from trying to find to frustrate or anger Katakuri to make him lose his cool again so he could hit him, to try to exhaust Katakuri's FS to serve as a punching-ball long enough to develop FS of his own, to use Snakeman only at the end of the fight, while Katakuri starts loyal to his family and wants to remove Luffy as a threat to them, and then hopes for Luffy to beat his mother.

I am not too fond of how Luffy vs Cracker ended either.

Any fight that was filled with plot armor but 2 stand out among the rest:

Luffy vs Katakuri.
Luffy vs Kaido.
:lusalty:
At least in all those fights we know where Luffy learns his technique from, it's given some context.

Contrary to somebody just having a super secret technique that has no explanation nor context to this day..
Anything familiar?

But yeah, Kaido vs Luffy was disappoitning both for the final "punch" and how many times Luffy went down.
This said, reading it all together it kinda flows.

Worst fight is probably all the stuff we have been blueballed with, I would like to say Mihawk vs Shanks since Oda has no balls to show anything about it.

Luffy vs Katakuri and Luffy vs Kaido
Too long and the flow was weird because Oda switched to other scenes. The fights were cut into pieces
and both villains became fanboys
Katakuri became a Luffy fanboy and Kaido a Joy Boy fanboy

Franky vs Sasaki
It’s too short and not impactful enough
I love Franky, he deserved a longer fight

Queen vs Sanji
Sanji was great but I didn’t like Queen's abilities

Fights filled to the brim and above with plot armor because that is kicking logic in the nuts and at the same time adding to the Jesus MC narrative (which ruined a ton of mangas).

So Luffy vs Kata was ridiculous because Luffy in that arc first beat Cracker, a YC3, then fought BM army (it had a nickname but I don't even remember it) and was beaten to a pulp. Then the wedding and then the escape, fine, Luffy had half his crew and had to escale the yonko headquarters with everybody on his tail, first he decided to stay behind in order to fight Kata when he could have simply have left him in the mirror world (and that was already a stab to OP ideology since Ace made the same exact choice but since he was not the MC, but actually a problem for the MC, he had to die, he was instantly reduced into a donut by Akainu) he stopped to fight him. Luffy was pummeled but he didn't give up and on the top of that not only did he get the usual mid fight power ups reducing the gap but he also stole FA from Kata mid fight, with the usual excuse that "haki blooms in deadly fights" and so on. The whole stuff was pretty disgusting.

Then of course Luffy vs Kaido. That fight had less value for me because at thay point I already knew what OP had become yet having Luffy defeated 4 or 5 times just to get up stronger, in the end literally die but resurrect as a god incarnate was so bad it actually break through in the ridiculous realm. Other "funny" points are how Oda wanted us to like this Tom and Jerry Nika powers by using repeatedly the gags and how when Kaido and BM were defeated instead of having some fortuitous encounter to save them (like Law and his submarine being exactly were Luffy was drowning after Kaido toss him down from Onigashima roof top) they instead had the volcano erupt in their face lmao.

I don't understand takes like this.
One piece has always been like this.
Arlong vs Luffy - we see luffy go all out with Arlong at the start and do NO DAMAGE. Then he wins
Luffy vs Croc - Literally gets stabbed in the chest/abdomen, drinks some water and he is alright. Also loses to chrock 2 times
Luffy vs Ener - Luffy is happily carrying around a metal ball worth thousands of kilos, but in Water 7 is gonna get tied to the floor by metal bars by Khalifa
Luffy vs Foxy - lol
Luffy vs Lucci - No damage in W7, wins in EL after getting bodied

And this is just from what One piece used to be in your perspective..

Everything you named but also Luffy vs Kizaru
Should have been a genuine 1v1 but I understand Oda holding them back cause they both had things to protect

Law & Kid vs BM. I get that Oda wanted to contrast this fight vs the haki heavy Kaido vs Luffy but she should’ve at least showcased BM’s DF versatility a lot more. Same with Kid and Law. You can do a lot with kids metals + Law’s ability to switch in an out of places. Ultimately this fight was not given enough panel time. Remove the pointless Raizo vs Fukurujuru stare off and give more time to this fight

Zoro vs King. This fight was not coherent at all. Oda tried to go for the Mr.1 “zoro needs new ability in order to cut character” when in fact Zoro never manages to cut flame mode king. So adCoC while cool really is not necessary to this fight. An easy fix would’ve been just Zoro cutting flame mode king with his final attack

The pre time skip fights were another thing, he still get some generic power ups mid fights like every other shounen protagonists. Arlong was strong but nothing overwhelming, Kata was toying with Luffy, he could have killed if it wasn't for the plot armor. Croco actually beat Luffy a couple of times but Luffy survived and come up to fight to a later date it isn't like he come back to fight in that exact fight (and that happened 4 or 5 times in the very same fight vs Kaido, it is ridiculous).
Luffy vs Lucci was interesting as we can accept that in Water 7 he was taken by surprise and quickly dealt by Lucci because he was way stronger but in Enies lobby he show for the first time the gears he developed after being mercilessly beaten by Aokiji and in the end those were his victory pass. And that solution was very good compared to the usual bullshit we see in shounen fights (not even taking in exam the fight with Kata or Kaido). They are different fights.
