Well actually Russia got away from communism relatively well, because they sort of taxed the nations it controlled. Lots of resources shipped to Russia, everyone else suffered a worse fate.

China as a former communist is arguably well off as an emerging economic super power that is bound to be stronger than US.

I'm facetiously saying this, as it's clear that having imperialist power and constant money flow plays a significant role.
