There is two type of people who say those type of stuff:

Caring parents : Their child underwent a hormone therapy but it didn't went the way they expected

Transphobic parents : Their child underwent a hormone therapy, it went well, but they rejected the child out of bigotry and now the child cut ties with them because of their lack of support. They therefore consider their child as "dead" > Elon musk is an example.

I have NO empathy for the seconds.
