Character Discussion Why aren’t One Piece villains as iconic and memorable as Naruto/DBZ villains?

JJK just has way more masculine energy than OP. I’ve seen a ton of high school kids wearing Toji outfits to the gym and casually discussing JJK with their friends. Never heard anyone mention anything about OP in public, and I can’t blame them. Even though I still love the series, anytime I see someone with a OP bumper sticker, I can’t help but imagine them being a fat soyboy tbh
Nah this is the realest thing I've maybe ever read on this forum. Spitting pure facts here 😂😂😂

I think this has to do with the fact that One Piece is heavily hero centric. Has that cuck energy going on, one of the reasons I can't stand Shanks too, he gives me that "beat the bullies" vibe. What's that one thread the dude with the Naruto frog pfp made? 😂

@Logiko needs to teach you about toxic masculinity

Lucci wasn't too shabby. He had aura for sure, what he lacked though was Crocodile's sheer buildup and influence. Crocodile was truly a mastermind for One Piece standards, a villain's villain, anytime I reread Alabasta I tip my hat to Oda for creating such a dope villain.

Lucci is purely combat oriented, a killing machine. You can definitely argue he is the most iconic villain in One Piece purely off the fact that he was involved in its most iconic fight, Luffy vs Lucci. It's thanks to Lucci being who he is, that this fight was able to break the scale.
In mastermind regard, Crocodile is not above Doffy and Orochi.
Crocodile hasn't completed the goal of taking Alabasta yet.
Doffy already took Dressrosa over and Orochi already took Wano over.
Crocodile even got outsmarted once by Sanji. Twice if Little Garden conversation counts

Doflamingo felt like a Crocodile remaster, so it didn't hit as hard. Orochi? :usoprice:

Doesn't help that a lot of these were less showing, and more telling. Oda's pen was a lot stronger back when he was writing Alabasta and it shows, so Crocodile is probably a beneficiary of that, ontop of it being something fresh at the time as opposed to Mingo. Doflamingo is still great though, he has the flashback Crocodile doesn't but I weigh what the character is doing in the present timeline heavier than a flashback.

Yeah Alabasta > Dressrosa arc as a whole.

Don't sleep on Orochi dude. He was really cunning, rising from servant, betraying his Lord, iirc drugging Oden's father, took over the country while Oden was away (opportunist) and gained alliance with Kaido.
He is just weak psychically and not having a design of Doffy, Crocodile, Lucci.

Tbh, Oda just isn't particularly good at writing mastermind type of characters. Both Crocodile and Doffy had extremely simplistic (and very similar) strategies to achieve their goals. Trick the people of Dressrosa into thinking the king was a bad guy by parasiting him on one hand and trick the people of Alabasta into thinking the king was a bad guy by having Mr. 2 pose as him on the other.

Difference between the two is that Croc ran into the protagonist before his plans came to fruition while Doffy had already been set for years before the plot caught up to him. Add to that the much more involved world building we had by then and the web of connections and influence Doffy carved up for himself within it and Crocodile ends up looking like the low budget version.

The old hag and priest dude did all the heavy lifting for him

Doffy surpasses Crocodile in terms of pure character. He's far too charismatic and frighten at the same time. As villains/antagonists go tho, I think Crocodile will always be head and shoulder above Doffy.

Before the Oden flashback, most thought that Kaido was the mastermind behind Wano's takeover.

But once we saw the Oden flashback, we then found out that it was Higurashi who was the true mastermind behind taking over Wano, both Kaido and Orochi only managed to takeover Wano thanks to that old hag.
Who was immediately put to death for successfully saving Kaido's life. Lmfao, Oda must be focusing on the big picture and winging these little details as he goes.
