Now that its (tentatively) over, this arc was really the weirdest thing Oda has dished out. To create the level of conflict he did with the Marines and Gorosei, only for it to putter out into nothing is honestly kind of baffling lol.
Not that I have high expectations with this series regarding fights, but generally when you have a shonen manga you create conflict and resolve it with battles, at least something lmao.
Not one of the 9 VAs did anything noteworthy. 3 of them were turned into children. 1 squashed by giants. 1 wrecked by Franky. Otter bro got beaten like 3 times. The rest didnt even have real scenes this arc lol, and Oda hyped up their presense for whatever reason too.
Kizaru was....weird. I get the internal conflict, but for Oda to not actually the Admiral fight Luffy in an interesting manner was just fucking weird. Unless of course he's being saved for yet another battle in the future (which is possible now; Sanji has a motivator to fight him if you think about it...)
Gorosei stuff was pretty cool, but its marred by the fact that it doesnt really mean much of anything outside of exposition. They are all fine and got what they want. Not necessarily bad but when the 10 Main Marines that came to the island dont do anything signficant its just, once again, weird. Same points with the Seraphim. Just more exposition.
The only point I can make about this chapter is Saturn, Kizaru, Stussy/CP0, and Sentoumaru arent seen, so theres probably at least half a chapter to close out Egghead if I had to guess with their status.
There are many things I enjoyed about Egghead, but I dont think Ive been as dissapointed when it came to the actual conflict Oda tried to draw here (outside of Kuma, loved that shit).
Edit: Even Emeth is just an exposition bot with very little to do outside a singular role. He's no better than Zunisha. In fact, they both practically do the same thing in terms protecting the crew/faction from an enemy.
