Yep, we spent a portion of a flashback there and the island was shown to be not that special. And we'll also get another flashback there when we see more Rocks and possibly Shanks' origin.

I still think we’ll go there because it seems too important to skip but I agree the island likely changed it’s physical form to make it more of a shock factor

Wano I don’t think was planned much at all. It’s clear Oda worked when establishing wanos culture and history, actually one of the few islands with notable historical lore. However, it’s clear he just didn’t know what to do for the plot and seeing how he changed it mid way through the 4 emperors saga to incorporate big mom it makes sense why…
Or as a warning/threat to Akainu that Kuzan is itching for a re-match.

I don’t see why Akainu is on Kiz’s case. Kiz did kill VP. That was his primary objective behind serving tea to Saturn. The marines usually are complete failures.
